Colours

I have chosen these colours as they are most commonly associated with the rock genre. They contrast well with each other, and also stand out against the brighter covers of other magazines. The colours also attract who are into grunge like music.

REASONING FOR NAME CHOICES Volume, Rock Mag and Unplugged are the possible names I have

selected for my magazine. I have chosen these as possible names for my magazine, as they are all related to music, and most have a particular relation the music genre of rock.

The most simple title I have used as a possibility is ‘Rock Mag’ this is short and simple, therefore easier to remember, and also has a direct link to the rock genre, so people instantly know what sort of stories the magazine will contain.

I have also used the name ‘unplugged’. This has the relation to music, particularly to guitars and amps. Again, it is a short snappy title which is easier to remember.

The name I am most likely to use for my magazine is ‘Volume’. This name can be linked to any genre of music, and is also catchy and easy to remember.

I have chosen these names as they are original names, and have unique ring to them.

GENRE AND COVER PRICE I have chosen to focus my magazine of the rock/ indie rock

genre of music. I have chosen this genre because I feel I have better knowledge on this genre than I do for any other. I have also read rock magazines in the past, and therefore have a better idea of what makes a magazine issue good.

I can use images from my own experiences to feature in my magazine.

Due to my magazine being a monthly issue, the number of pages and what is contained within will be of a larger quantity. Therefore I have chosen to price magazine at around £4.25.

I will provide competitions and advertisements to entice people to pay the more expensive price, as they have the opportunity to gain something back from the magazine.

My magazine will contain more in depth stories and interviews, as well as a larger quantity of them, due to each issue covering a month in the world of rock.

STYLE OF MY MAGAZINEWith my magazine being focused on the genre of rock, I shall use my main colours as red, black and white, particularly on my front cover. This is because these are the colours that are closely associated with rock. This colour scheme is displayed on many other music magazine, which I have shown on this page.

I will have a simple and easy to follow contents page, however will make it appealing to the audience. I will do this using images and eye-catching colours. My contents page will feature an image of the main artist my issue will be focused on.

I will have a double page spread in my magazine, which will display an interview of a rock artist each issue. This artist will also be the large image on the front cover on my magazine.

The overall style of my magazine will be eye-catching and appealing to the audience, containing bright colours and images. However I do not want the pages to be too busy and cluttered, as it may dazzle readers due too much going on.

I will use bold font for the titles, and smaller font for the stories, allowing me to fit more information. I will probably use fonts like Calibri for text, however the font of my bold titles will vary.

TYPICAL MAGAZINE CONTENTS

My magazine will contain the latest news and gossip from each month in the music world. It is focused specifically on the rock genre therefor will reach out to a particular audience. I will tailor each issue to satisfy the readers, while still including the latest stories and interviews with rock artists, both renowned and upcoming of the rock genre.

Due to my magazine being published monthly, it will feature numerous stories and interviews, as well as chances to win prizes, top 10 polls, and chances for the readers to have more interaction with the magazine, through votes, quizzes etc. This therefore justifies the price I am charging for each issue.

The main articles of my issues will mostly be interviews with rock artists or bands, and I will give readers the opportunity to send in questions for the artist featuring in the next issue. This gives the readers an insight into the lives and personality of the artists they love, and gives a much more personal feel to the magazine.
