Princes Street, Edinburgh

Situated along the bustling shopping area of Edinburgh and overlooked by its famous castle, the company undertook the task of bringing up three concrete cores hidden behind the original retained façade which would all be incorporated into a new Premier Inn Hotel and retail unit. With restricted access and limited time we used our best resources to help deliver another city centre project.

FORMWORK

Ulster Rugby Club

Mastercraft was awarded the formwork package at Ulster’s famous Ravenhill Rugby Stadium.

The scope of our works included four lift cores and the construction of a basement to the Aquinas stand housing the new state of the art strength and conditioning centre. We were also tasked with creating all the stepped terracing and the retaining walls to all four stands. These works will now bring the stadium up to European standards and up to a capacity of 18,000.

Fitzwilliam Hotel

The Fitzwilliam Hotel stands in the heart of Belfast on Great Victoria Street, next door to the glorious Grand Opera House. Mastercraft Construction was entrusted ^P[O�LYLJ[PUN�[OL�JVUJYL[L�MYHTL�MVY�[OPZ�Ä]L�Z[HY�OV[LS��

The hotel framework is built to within 250mm off the external walls of the Grand Opera House and covers the entire footprint of the site in the city centre. This logistical challenge during the project was overcome by our dedicated onsite team.

Critical Care Complex, Ulster Hospital

After successfully completing the formwork and joinery packages to the new Maternity Unit and Renal Unit, 4HZ[LYJYHM[�^HZ�ÄYZ[�JOVPJL�[V�JVUZ[Y\J[�[OL�MYHTL�VM�[OL�UL^�£40 million Critical Care Complex at the Ulster Hospital. The 25,000m2�I\PSKPUN�JVTWYPZLZ�VM�H�IHZLTLU[��MV\Y�ÅVVYZ�VM�theatres, administration and laboratory space above.

FORMWORKGiant’s Causeway Centre

Mastercraft Construction teamed up with PERI, the world’s largest provider and manufacturer of formwork, to design the bespoke decking and wall aspects of the new Giant’s Causeway Visitor Centre on the famous UNESCO world heritage site.

Together we overcame the unique non-orthogonal design of the main ceiling which was laid to pre-determined falls and made up of more than 800 individually cut parallelogram shaped plywood sheets. Our other major challenge was to deliver curved and sloped walls with no ties through the concrete, these were successfully completed, as illustrated in the pictures shown.

The building has been nominated for and won numerous prizes including being shortlisted for the Stirling prize.

Everyman Theatre, Liverpool

The new Everyman Theatre is located on Hope Street, in Liverpool city centre and will replace the old theatre which was demolished to accommodate the redevelopment. Mastercraft Construction started work on site in February 2012 HUK�V\Y�WHJRHNL�PUJS\KLK�HSS�[OL�Z[Y\J[\YHS�^H[LYWYVVÄUN��reinforcement, placing of concrete and formwork.

The building’s noted feature is the extensive use of board marked concrete throughout.

The Lyric Theatre has been an indispensable part of cultural life in Northern Ireland for over 40 years but was PU�ULLK�VM�TVKLYUPZH[PVU��4HZ[LYJYHM[�^HZ�ÄYZ[�JOVPJL�[V�JVUZ[Y\J[�[OL�JVUJYL[L�MYHTL�PU�[OPZ�JVTWSL_�KLZPNU�due to our experience in this sector and we teamed up with Peri Ltd. to provide all the designs and drawings for the intricate formwork.

)V[O�[OL�*SPLU[�HUK�[OL�(YJOP[LJ[�^LYL�KLSPNO[LK�^P[O�[OL�ÄUPZOLK�I\PSKPUN�HUK�[OL�X\HSP[`�VM�^VYR�WYVK\JLK�I`�the company. The building itself has won numerous awards including a nomination for the Stirling prize.

The Lyric Theatre was the Overall Winner at the Irish Concrete Awards 2011 for Mastercaft Construction.
