Count visits, understand behavior and optimize sales

Omar Tello, CEO of sensalytics, sums up the company‘s

goal: “We aim to target and sell our analytical tools to

the brick-and-mortar retailers, many of whom have

long dominated the online world.“ It‘s not just in outlet

or fashion stores where massive data volumes arise,

but also at fairs and events, too. In fact, everywhere

Using fast analytics and insights to boost retail sales

where visitors are counted or workloads measured.

Therefore, the company has developed analytic tools

that allow users to measure and determine customers’

behavior down to the smallest detail. Measurements

and readings can be taken using various sensors in

different premises, and the data is then forwarded to

the sensalytics platform and presented in clear and

precise dashboards.

Web analytics tools are one of the must-haves for companies that want to innovate and stay ahead

of the competition. These tools can tell you where visitors come from, the time they spend on each

page or which search engines they used. If these services could be offered to non-online businesses

too, they would provide enormous benefits; companies would be able to improve process flows,

increase sales incrementally and evaluate marketing campaigns more efficiently. The start-up

company sensalytics saw this as a business idea that had potential. As a result, using the analytical

in-memory database EXASolution, the retail analytics specialist develops and markets the successful

product sensalytics as a software-as-a-service solution.

EXACloud was the ideal solution

When looking for a way to manage the ever-larger

amounts of data, Tello remembered the positive

experiences he had had in previous business

relationships with EXASOL. He already knew about the

high performance offered by the in-memory database

EXASolution and therefore welcomed the start-up

program offered by EXASOL. “As a young company

with a discretionary budget, it was extremely important

to us that the maintenance costs for the new database

system were as low as possible. Time and money are

two factors that are incredibly important in a start-up,“

adds Tello. “With a cloud-based solution, EXASOL

has been able to provide us with a comprehensive

personalized service offering. Maintenance and

administration are no longer an issue for us, and we

only pay for what we actually use in the cloud.“

Looking back, it‘s clear that the original solution

sensalytics used was no longer capable of supporting

the rapid development the company is going through.

Given performance issues, analyses were based on

aggregated data instead of raw data, where ad hoc

analyses would have been possible.

Tello and his team were even more pleased with

the speedy migration of EXASolution into their

infrastructure. Within two weeks the start-up’s entire

business model was transferred into EXASolution.

With EXACloud – the in-memory database in the

cloud – the company gets the flexibility needed both

for themselves and their customers. With real-time

analytics, for example, retailers receive information

about what is taking place on the sales floor, how

many shoppers are currently on site, the buying

behavior of customers, and even how the different

locations are performing. As a result, the company

can draw valuable conclusions: Which branch requires

special attention? What is the current market value of

a particular product? Where does the business need

to react fast with price changes? This decision-making

process means that processes flow more efficiently,

campaigns can be better evaluated, and, last but not

least, conversion rates increase more quickly.

Well prepared for even more growth

The company‘s plans include building an independent

business intelligence system in the cloud. According

to Tello, EXASolution has made the integration of

analytical functions that others do not have a reality

– as well as the ability to implement own functions via

Java, for example. This makes developments in the

near future exciting. Praise is given to the fantastic

scalability of EXASolution, which in turn means that

sensalytics is well prepared for further data growth.

EXACloud will continue to be best suited to meet the

needs of sensalytics.

“Every start-up operating in the field of analytics or big data can definitely benefit from EXASolution. We at sensalytics are incredibly grateful to EXASOL for being there to support us and the opportunity to use the in-memory database as a service.”
