PRESENTATION ON CPU
By Israt Jahan & Md.Hafizul Islam
CPU means central prosessing unit. It is the part of the
computer that carries out the instractions of a computer
program. It is the unit that reads and executes program
instractions. It is also called the brain of computer.
What is CPU???
1.CU (Control Unit)2.ALU (arithmetic / logic unit)
Components of CPU:
BLOCK DIAGRAM OF CPU:
CU (Control Unit):
All the computer’s resources are managed from the control unit. The function of control unit is to coordinate with all the computer activities. The control unit contains the CPU’s instructions for carrying out commands
ALU (arithmetic / logic unit)
When the control unit encounters an instruction that involves arithmetic or logic operation, it passes control to the second component of the CPU, the arithmetic/logic unit (ALU).
The CU and ALUare in the CPU.
Registers:Special-purpose
High-speedTemporary storageLocated inside CPU Instruction register:
Holds instruction currently being executed
Data register:
Holds data waiting to be processed
Holds results from processing
Types of Memory:ROM - Read Only Memory(contains the basic input output
system or BIOS)
RAM - Random Access Memory
(user programs and data go here)
The ROM is nonvolatile because it will notlose its contents when powered down.
RAM plugs into sockets on the motherboard.
The CPU can read RAM much faster than it can the hard disk.
