Response to the brief Thomas Ngai
Why music magazine
• I love music so much, I always listens to music when I am working and relaxing. I am very interesting in music….• I have received a positive result from the coursework last
year in GCSE as I was doing print and I feel happy to carry on.• I really want to understand how a music magazine design
and produce. • I am considering to get a media job in the future, so that
the coursework can gives me experience and help me to improve my knowledge.
Target Audience • Primary audience: C-E 16-24teenagers• Secondary audience: C-E 12-16 audiences • Most of the target is still studying and they have less income as they
haven’t got a job and they are still living with their parents • As they are young and they are digital natives, so that they will be
more interested in modern music than any other group of audience• As they are also fox thinker which means they can easy to distract
and easy to attract by the artists. • For the VAL Type, they will be Strivers and Experiencers, as they are
just graduated and so they will have slightly less income.
Why would I choose pop music
• Firstly because I really like the genre of pop and all my friends also listen to pop song and we will talk about it and listen together.• As I have been listened to pop music for a period of time
so that I know more about the style and the characteristic within the type of music genre • The power of pop music is massive as it can easy to
attract the target audience, so that I am very interesting in find out how and why.
My initial idea• For the cover of my magazine I would like to have a colourful
background therefore it can more target audience. • Also I will only add few simple layout with a medium close up
or medium shot of the artists • I will name my music magazine as “Popcorn”, as popcorn
connotes fun times and joyful.
Inspiration• From the famous music magazine “Billboard” I found out that
the cover of the magazine have a big picture of the artists and there isn’t a lot of layout as the target audience might only want to look at the picture instead reading words.
• Also there are effect (E.g. Black and whit) of the artists in the front cover picture, which can attract the audience.
Narrative Arc• I would like to do an interview with the pop music’s artists • I will focus on an established artists, there will be also another
artist who will talk about her new released album • I will ask him/her question about the process to become an
artists and advise for people who wants to become an artists. Also I will ask about him/her some personal question such as hobbies. The interview will also link to the him/her album release so that it can gives out social interaction to the audience.
• I will also take pictures of the artists during the interview.
