The Issue
Statistics• By the end of 2007, there were more than 4
million farmers turned migrant workers in Shanghai
• Over 10 million migrants move to large cities in China per year
• In 2005, half the migrant laborers’ monthly income was about 800 rmb, with about 20%below 500 rmb
• Over 11% of China’s population are migrant workers– 150 million people
