PLANNING A JOB CHANGE? KEEP THESE IN MIND!

1. Ask Yourself! It is important to ask yourself the reason why you want to change your job. Evaluating one's decision is an excellent way to demarcate the true reason behind the decision. Only if the reason is logical and for one's betterment should you make the move.

2. Self-assessmentInvest time in identifying your true passion and again ask yourself questions like what are your strengths. What do you like doing when you are at work? What interests you? What's your true passion? This will give you your answer and make you more confident!

3. Get ClarityAfter finding your passion, you must be clear on how to get what you want. Spend time researching the types of careers that centre on your passion. It may take time to find the correct opportunity. Don't be impatient!

4. Gain Knowledge Via NetworkingLeveraging professional networks is a crucial step in helping you get the ideal job. It is advisable to get in touch with people from the same field when changing your job. They will be able to guide you in the right direction in terms of references, vacancies and requirements.

5. Understand The Potential For GrowthBefore choosing a new job, understand the potential it has for future growth. Don't change your job by just seeing the short-term benefits it provides but also keep in mind its long-term aspect. It must help you grow in future also.

6. Get To Know About The CompanyIt is important to know the pros and cons of working for an agency, corporation, non-profit organisation or a startup. They all have different environment. You must analyse them and decide what suits you the most before you choose. The location of the company must also be kept in mind.

7. Prepare YourselfDon't make the mistake of rushing into a change without understanding how to mentally and emotionally prepare yourself (and your family). You may need to receive additional training. Without having yourself prepared, you may end up making a wrong choice and regretting it later.

8. Take Advice Before You ChangeYou must take advice from an experienced person before taking any decision. Their suggestions are often very helpful. He/she may also be able to help you by taking advantage of his /her network.

9. Be FlexibleOnce you change your job, you'll need to be flexible about nearly everything -- from relocation to salary. Set positive goals for yourself, but expect setbacks and change -- and don't let these things get you down.

10. Keep LearningThe moment you decide to shift to a new job, you must also prepare yourself for adding new skills and for implementing them with confidence and show results. The first few months of a new job will be bumpy otherwise.
