Here’s the all the Types of Managers You’ll Have
The job marketplace is changing and its estimated the average worker will
change jobs about once every five years. And even if you stay at the
same job for your entire career you’ll likely have a number of different
managers.
Each will have a their own unique way of managing but they will
assuredly fit into these management style categories.
The Micro- Manager
Rarely will you find an employee that likes being micro-managed. This
strategy can be effective, however, if employees are unskilled and won’t
likely do a decent job without direction.
However, many employees resent managers that try to exert control
over their creativity. Avoid this manager at all costs, but when you do
come across her, appease her and offer alternatives.
The Steve Jobs
Every manager thinks they are Steve Jobs but rarely will you find a leader
as effective. Sometimes this tough and critical management style isn’t
the most effective.
If, for example, the manager is not well-respected, no one will take his criticisms seriously and teams and
morale can break down.
Your Best Friend
This manager can make for a great work environment while
simultaneously being very effectivein inspiring employees. This
management style will make you want to get your work done at a high
level.
When conflict does eventually happen this manager can be very
helpful in resolving it. If you have this manager just don’t let your work slip
and you’ll be rewarded.
The Competent
Worker
Not every great worker will make a great manager. Often the skills
necessary to be a great manager aren’t the same as those needed on
the front line and when this person is promoted they expect everyone to be
as good and dedicated as they are. You’ll likely have to seek help from
this person on your own.
