An album advert is the advertisement of an artist’s music presented on TV. Magazine, or other Medias. Depending on the genre of music, there is a huge variety of album adverts. Usually the artist is very obvious in the advertisement, and it also includes the release date of the album, maybe some reviews, and other important information. The use of colour and bold texts helps represent the genre that the music is, and helps make the artist recognisable and gain a bigger fan base. Rock album adverts: The rock album adverts usually have dark colours in the advertisement and big writing. Usually rock artists consist of a band; therefore the artists are usually all on the front of the advert, as you can see in the Kings of Leon advert has been put together to merge their faces together showing equality in the band, whereas the Rancid cover still has the band on the cover but the leader of the group is quite obviously at the front, most of the light is on him and he is the person that is closest to the camera. Also in the Rancid album advert the writing is bold and red, obviously the colour convention of red is danger or evil. I think they have definitely taking that into consideration whilst making the advert to represent the music they produce. Pop album adverts: This is the album advert for Jessie J’s album who you are.

Rock album adverts:

The rock album adverts usually have dark colours in the advertisement and big writing. Usually rock artists consist of a band; therefore the artists are usually all on the front of the advert, as you can see in the Kings of Leon advert has been put together to merge their faces together showing equality in the

band, whereas the Rancid cover still has the band on the cover but the leader of the group is quite obviously at the front, most of the light is on him and he is the person that is closest to the camera. Also in the Rancid album advert the writing is bold and red, obviously the colour convention of red is danger or evil. I think they have definitely taking that into consideration whilst making the advert to represent the music they produce.

Pop album adverts:This is the album advert for Jessie J’s album who you are. She has been presented to the public as a powerful and strong artist which she elaborates into her lyrics. Her name is written in gold font meaning that she is an artist of high importance. One thing I have noticed about her advert is she is the main attention of it; because she is the artist obviously. Not much writing is included therefore it helps to attract the audience to the important information in the advert. In contrast to Jessie J being represented as a strong

character, Beyoncé’s album advert really represents the fact there are two sides to the artist. Beyoncé by her many fans is considered ‘Queen B’ and one of the most powerful female artists in the world. Her name is in white writing representing innocence, I think this is because unlike many other female artists, throughout Beyoncé’s career she has always stayed sophisticated and classy. The two mid shots enable the audience to see the transformation

between the two sides of the artist, alongside this, the font also changes. Having some of Beyoncé’s previous music allows the audience to familiarise themselves with the artists music.

Hip Hop album adverts:

These are some hip hop album adverts from the 90’s. Most hip hop artists that I am looking at come from the streets, they rap about their life experiences and I think they have presented the struggle in their album adverts, especially 2pac; there is a child that most probably represents him behind bars. I think this suggests the struggle that he

has been through and maybe he had to get in trouble when he was younger to survive, suggesting maybe gang or drug crime or the maybe the fact he is found it hard to get out of the ‘ghetto’ especially because the surroundings are very urban, especially as this advert was made in the 90’s it could suggesting he found it hard growing up because he was black and not accepted as much in society, so it was hard to get out of the street life and poverty. The words ‘trapped’ are bold and stand out in the advert, also the artist’s name. Although the advert is not jammed with info, it only has what it needs and what the audience needs to know such as the album name and the release dates. Both of the adverts are in black and white, and have a title suggesting crime. This may be why the stereotype comes that hip hop artists are scary and involved in organised crime, such as Jay Z and other famous and powerful artists being a part of the illuminati.
