5 tips to presentation success
In some roles, part of the interview process can include a candidate having to give a presentation to the hiring manager.
Just like an interview, having to stand ‘on stage’ can be a nerve-wracking experience for people. Here are some tips to make sure that you are well prepared and give the best presentation you possibly can!
Failure to prepare is preparing to fail
It’s obvious; you can’t expect to give out a great presentation if you don’t know your stuff beforehand.
Writing a presentation a night before the due date will mean its rushed and (even if it’s the best thing in the world) you won’t have time to rehearse it. Speaking of rehearsing…
Avoid fancy animations and transitions
Don’t overcomplicate the animations you use in your presentation. Firstly, it can be distracting to your audience if things are spinning and bouncing around. Secondly, its not as important as making sure you have the right words on the screen – so don’t waste your time.
Deliver with class
When it comes to finally giving your presentation, having your points written on index cards will make sure you are fluid in your delivery. You can keep track of what you need to say and when it needs to be said.
Keep eye-contact and smile
Looking at your audience is a great way to convey your confidence – even if you are a nervous wreck on the inside! Just reading some words in front of a room is not an engaging way to deliver a presentation!
Have a good conclusion
There’s nothing more awkward than a presentation which ends with, “and that’s it finished I suppose”. Combine the points in your presentation into a final summary or end with a question for the audience to ponder. This will make your presentation more memorable.
