Layout Everything on the page is neatly ordered. Laying out the page like this makes it easy for the reader to read.

The layout of the newspaper does follow the route of the eye. The reader’s attention is drawn to the masthead first of all and then forces them to look at the image and the rest of the info on the page.

The main image is along side the story or article, this layout technique shows the connection between the two.

In local newspapers like this one, a lot of advertising is used. It tends t be placed in a banner above or below the main headline and article.

FontThe font is of normal standard, typical of a newspaper. Font like Arial and Times New Roman is commonly used.

The style of the font may not appeal to a younger target audience simply because of how bland it is. However the style does suit older target audiences such as 30 years +.

The style and bold font of the masthead adds further clarity which is key in catching the readers attention while also making it easy for them to read.

The font size of the article or story is small and the font style is simple, some people especially the elderly may find it hard to read without glasses. Although due to the simple style the text is easy to read.

ColourFor a local newspaper the Wisbech Standard contains some vibrant colours here and there. It adds an appeal to the younger target audience. These also encourage more people to read it

Besides from the typical black and white colours used in local newspapers, green and red can be found across the page.

The background colour of the Wisbech Standard is white which is typical in nearly all newspapers. It enables a large variety of colours to be placed without causing a colour clash and making the newspaper unreadable

The colour of the text never seems to be vibrant just black or white. It makes it very easy to read, and if it were the colour red or yellow for example, it may clash.

ImagesThere are a fair few images used in the Wisbech Standard, One main image is located to the left in the centre of the page

Again similar to the colour, the images add a sense of appeal for the reader. It draws the readers eye due to the vibrancy and size

There are also a number of images related to the advertising on the page. At times filling the page with images is not very effective because it can clutter the layout and may not take up a lot of room where info, articles and stories could go.

The images range in sizes from small to large. Pictures of greater size have a an effective influence on the reader forcing them to look at it due to the sheer size.
