Why is audience feedback important to us?Firstly, without approval of our classmates, the film is unlikely to be successful with the market outside the classroom. Overall, the more audience feedback we can obtain, the more we can alter our film trailer to meet their wants and produce a trailer that is relatable and attractive to them. Audience feedback showed us what we needed to improve and what they liked best. Because of audience feedback, we knew to change the colour saturation of our film and add slow paced non-diegetic music to give more emotion.

Pitch Feedback At the first stage of our teaser trailer campaign, we asked our classmates to watch our initial pitch and give feedback on the plot. This feedback was given in the form of a class discussion. We obtained this feedback on our original plot;

‘I like the storyline’

‘Interesting narrative, would go and see it’

‘Produce consistent rules of ghost’s ability’.

This feedback gave us confidence in our plot and lead us into the development stage with a plan of what the audience wanted to see as a final trailer.

Rough Cut FeedbackOur rough cut was shown halfway through our development stage, at a point when many improvements still needed to be made. The video was uploaded from Final Cut Pro to YouTube, and once watched, feedback was given through an online survey I had created using SurveyMonkey.com.

From our replies, we found that the majority of students understood the plot and that the voiceover was a beneficial addition helping to reiterate complicated parts of the plot, noone said they didn’t understand. Over 50% of respondents said they really enjoyed the trailer. We also received less positive feedback regarding our music (as this was still very undeveloped) and therefore, this was an important improvement we needed to ensure we made. The same feedback was given for our titles.

Rough Cut (cont)

The information in this table is taken from our results page on Survey Monkey- we had 13 responses overall. From this, we can see our best feature is currently our voiceover, and that our music needs improvement.

Very Good Good Fair Poor Very Poor

Music 2 2 3 2 4

Voiceover 8 4 1 - -

Acting 4 6 1 2 -

Sound effects - 6 6 - 1

Titles 2 8 3 - -

ImprovementsIt was after our rough cut feedback that we also altered the colour saturation of our shots, to a more muted grey/blue colour. This was done on final cut pro, adding a tint effect and lowering the brightness of the shot, then adding the blue-grey effect. This inspiration was taken from films such as ‘The sixth sense’ and ‘The lovely bones’ in which the same colour editing was used throughout. We also created our ident as suggested from our rough cut feedbacks.

Improvements (cont)Audience feedback told us that our soundtrack needed to be altered to fit the genre of the film better. Therefore, we created a slow-paced piano tune using Garageband on the computers. It is important that we listen and interpret their feedback in order to say we have improved, from the rough cut to the final edit and make our film look finished and professional. This screenshot shows thefinal tune we have created that runs over the majority of our teaser trailer. From improvingour sound effects and music, we have met thewants of our target audience and bettered ouroverall trailer for them in particular.

Final Cut Feedback

Final Cut (cont)Our final feedback was given on the page of our YouTube teaser trailer. All the comments we received were positive and congratulated our final edit, giving us a quick idea that our film has improved far more since the half way rough cut.

Overall, we are really pleased with the feedback we got on our trailer. Our voiceover and editing fits well with the genre of our film, and makes the plot easier to understand. It is important that our final edit has received positive feedback as it gives it a higher chance of being relatable and attractive to our target audience.
