An Assurance of Press Quality

An Assurance of Press Quality All of our viewing booths are Munsel Grey and the lighting meets SWOP

specifications of 5000 Kelvin bulbs, monitored with precise light meter timing.

All of our plates have the GATF/SWOP proofing color control bars used to check against dot gain and for control of ink densities of each color.

Densitometers are used in the pressroom, which are calibrated weekly with SWOP Hi-Lo color reference strips. These densitometers assist our pressmen with the identification and control of color density audits.

Color reproduction in the Pressroom begins with the transfer of scanned data from electronic files in prepress to the ink fountain color consoles of the presses. This procedure allows the pressman to pre-set the ink fountains to ensure a more consistent startup and eliminate costly make-ready waste and time. After final color is achieved, the new settings may be stored within the computer to be retrieved on repeat orders.

Color approvals are achieved and office copies are run with the Supervisor present. These copies are placed on a skid with the appropriate load tags and before they leave the pressroom they are fully inspected again by the Supervisor or Quality Assurance Manager.

To ensure consistent color the signatures are continuously checked and time stamped according to Vanguard Printing, LLC procedures. The Quality Assurance Manager is on call 24/7 and is available to work with all customers.

Post-Press“…it’s not over until it’s over”

On the start up of each of our customer’s jobs, both the machine operator and supervisor review the job specifications to ensure the job’s make-ready procedures are properly followed.

Upon completion of the Make-ready and Start-up process, the machine operator and shift supervisor review and approve the first book saved. This inspection process includes verifying pagination, insert locations, accurate versions, and proper trim, just to name a few of our key quality control check points.

In addition to the operator, supervisor, and machine personnel who continually check the final product coming off the end of the line during the production process, the Bindery is required to pull “time stamps.” Time-stamps are pulled every 2,500 – 5,000 books (depending on print quantity) to ensure, and document, that a consistent quality product is continually being manufactured. Each time-stamp pulled is signed by the machine operator and supervisor guaranteeing their acceptance of Vanguard Printing’s, and the Customer’s, quality control standards.
