Parcan• Accessories: Gel, Gel

Frame, G-Clamp, Safety Chain, Adjustable Arm.

• Used For: Music Gigs- Chases, Creates General State. Also can be used on a Boom.

• I would use a parcan for a chase in a music gig for example as you can use coloured gels and they also light a large area of space with a beam angle of 24 degrees with the bulb CP62. Id use a parcan over a profile as the light is too concentrated and as is a birdi. A birdi would be too small and not powerful enough to create a effective chase.

Page 3: Unit 62 lighting maintenance (after comments)

Check List- Parcan • 1. All spare lights can be found at the back of the

hall.• 2. If hanging the light from the rig or a boom the

Parcan must have a safety chain. Additional chains are situated at the back of the hall.

• 3. If hanging the light from the rig attach a G-clamp. Additional G-clamps can be found at the back of the hall on the lighting rack.

• 4. If using colour you will need a gel these can be found in the gel cabinet at the back of the hall. Cut the gel to size if required.

• 5. If using colour you will also require a gel holder and you need to check it is the right size for the Parcan.

LED Parcan• Accessories: G-Clamp, Safety

Chain.• Used For: General Cover,

same type of light as Par Can but is energy saving and can be controlled by lighting desk, Music Gigs.

• To provide multiple colour enabling the mood to change in a piece of theatre I would use a LED parcan as through the use of a DMX they can controlled through the desk and create primary colours. I would use this light over a parcan because the colour can only be changed through gel frames.

Page 6: Unit 62 lighting maintenance (after comments)

Check List- LED Parcan • 1. All spare lights can be found at the back of the hall.• 2. If hanging the light from the rig or a boom the LED

Parcan must have a safety chain. Additional chains are situated at the back of the hall.

• 3. If hanging the light from the rig attach a G-clamp. Additional G-clamps can be found at the back of the hall on the lighting rack.

• 4. To change the colour use the manual dip switches on the back of the light. Alternatively you can change the colour on the desk by using the DMX cable.

• 5. This light can either be used with a 15 or 13 amp plug, therefore plug adaptors can be found on the wall in Julies Office.

• Also this light can be used on the floor with the use of a wooden base found next to the lighting rack and bolts to tighten are found in a box in Julies office.

Spot Light- Source Four• Accessories: G-Clamp, Safety

Chain, Shutters, Gel Frames, Gels, Gobo, Gobo Holder, Iris.

• Used for: Can manipulate light used for defining space, highlighting people, can make light larger or smaller with knob.

• To isolate a actor on stage I would use a source four because it is a concentrated circle of light, I would use a source four over a flood as floods cannot be controlled in relation to making a spotlight.

Page 9: Unit 62 lighting maintenance (after comments)

Check List- Source Four • 1. All spare lights can be found at the back of the hall.• 2. If hanging the light from the rig or a boom the Source Four

must have a safety chain.

• 5. If using colour you will also require a gel holder and you need to check it is the right size for the Source Four.

• 6. In order to isolate the light use the shutters that are permanently attached to the light.

• 7. If you want to create a pattern you need a gobo these are found in Julies Office. Therefore you will also need a gobo holder found in the hall above the lighting rack.

• 8. In order to make the light smaller you can use an iris these can be found above the lighting rack.

Minuette Profile• Accessories: G-Clamp, Safety

Chain, Shutters, Gel Frames, Gels, Gobo, Gobo Holder, Iris.

• Used for: Can manipulate light used for defining space, highlighting people, can make light larger or smaller with knob.

• I would use a Minuette Profile to create a window effect in a performance as you can use a GOBO in the Minuette Profile. I’d use it over a CCT because it is not a special and therefore you cannot use a GOBO in them.

• A minuette Profile also has 2 knobs 1 that creates either a smaller or wider spread of light and 1 that either can sharpen or create a more defused light.

Page 12: Unit 62 lighting maintenance (after comments)

Check List- Minuette Profile • 1. All spare lights can be found at the back of the hall.• 2. If hanging the light from the rig or a boom the Minuette

Profile must have a safety chain.

• 5. If using colour you will also require a gel holder and you need to check it is the right size for the Minuette Profile.

• 6. Insure that there are 4 shutters as they can become loose and fall out.

• 7. If you want to create a pattern you need a gobo these are found in Julies Office. Therefore you will also need a gobo holder found in the hall above the lighting rack.

• 8. In order to make the light smaller you can use an iris these can be found above the lighting rack.

Fresnel- PC• Accessories: G-Clamp, Safety

Chain, Barn Doors, Gel Frame, Gel, Adjustable Arm, 15amp plug, Adjustable knob.

• Used for: Used for general cover or as a last resort spot, has a pebble lenses that effects the harshness of the light.

• I would use a PC if all the profiles are broken and I need to create a isolated light, I would do this because it shares the same pebble convex lenses as the profiles meaning it has the same defined edge to the light. I would use a PC over a selecon as a selecon has a ridged edged lens and therefore is a more defined light.

Page 15: Unit 62 lighting maintenance (after comments)

Check List- PC Fresnel • 1. All spare lights can be found at the back of the

hall.• 2. If hanging the light from the rig or a boom the

PC must have a safety chain.

Fresnel- CCT• Accessories: G-Clamp, Safety

Chain, Gel Frame, Gel, Adjustable Knob, Adjustable Arm, Barn Doors, 15amp.

• Used for: The adjustable knob increases or decreases the beam angle. The ridged circular lenses creates a defused even spread light, the only thing that makes the CCT different from the Selecon is the variation in Beam Angle.

• If I wanted to side light a dance performance I would use a CCT as they can be used on a boom and you can use barn doors to manipulate the light, I would use it over a pin spot as a pin spot would be too weak and not large enough.

Page 18: Unit 62 lighting maintenance (after comments)

Check List- CCT Fresnel • 1. All spare lights can be found at the back of the hall.• 2. If hanging the light from the rig or a boom the CCT

must have a safety chain.

• 5. If using colour you will also require a gel holder and you need to check it is the right size for the CCT.

• 6. If you need to isolate the light direction you need barn doors. These can be found above the lighting rack at the back of the hall.

Fresnel- Selecon• Accessories: G-Clamp, Safety

Chain, Gel Frame, Gel, Adjustable Knob, Adjustable Arm, Barn Doors, 15amp.

• Used for: General state, only difference between this and the CCT is the variation in beam angle. Can be used as a back light helping the people on stage to be seen against a black cyclorama.

• If I wanted to create a general wash at a Christmas show I would use a Selecon as they are good for creating a general wash . I would use this over a parcan as parcan’s should only be used for adding depth to general washes.

• There is a adjustable knob at the base of the light that either widens or reduces the spread of light created.

Page 21: Unit 62 lighting maintenance (after comments)

Check List- Selecon Fresnel • 1. All spare lights can be found at the back of the hall.• 2. If hanging the light from the rig or a boom the Selecon

must have a safety chain. Safety chain is already attached to light.

• 3. If hanging the light from the rig attach a G-clamp. Additional G-clamps can be found at the back of the hall on the lighting rack.

• 4. If using colour you will need a gel these can be found in the gel cabinet at the back of the hall. Cut the gel to size if required.

• 5. If using colour you will also require a gel holder and you need to check it is the right size for the Selecon.

• 6. If you need to isolate the light direction you need barn doors. These can be found above the lighting rack at the back of the hall.

Fresnel- 1K• Accessories: G-clamp,

Safety Chain, Gel, Gel Frame, Barn Doors, 15amp Plug.

• Used for: Largest Fresnel with twice as much power meaning it’s a bright light but does not mean that it has a larger range. It can be used for back light and also general washes.

• I would use a 1k when creating a back light for a Musical Theatre performance as they are a powerful light, I would use them over a profile as the light from them is too defined.

Page 24: Unit 62 lighting maintenance (after comments)

Check List- 1k Fresnel • 1. All spare lights can be found at the back of the hall.• 2. If hanging the light from the rig or a boom the 1k

must have a safety chain.

• 5. If using colour you will also require a gel holder and you need to check it is the right size for the 1k.

Flood Light• Accessories: G-Clamp, Safety

Chain, Gel Frame, Gel, 15amp plug.

• Used for: Used for lighting audience or for lighting cyclorama. Can use within a general wash but not by itself.

• I would use a flood if I wanted to light the cyclorama in a piece of theatre because a flood covers a large amount of space with a large beam angle, I would use them over a birdi as they aren't powerful enough to cover the space needed.

Page 27: Unit 62 lighting maintenance (after comments)

Check List- Flood Light• 1. All spare lights can be found at the back of the

hall.• 2. If hanging the light from the rig or a boom the

Flood must have a safety chain.

• 5. If using colour you will also require a gel holder and you need to check it is the right size for the Flood.

Birdi • Accessories: Safety

Chain, G-Clamp, Gel Frame, Gel, Barn Doors, 13/15amp plug.

• Used for: Museum exhibitions, Art Gallery's, Can be used on truss’.

• If I wanted to light the audience I would use a birdi because they are aesthetically pleasing and are not too bright. I would use them over a parcan as parcans create too much light and don’t look as attractive as the birdi.

Page 30: Unit 62 lighting maintenance (after comments)

Check List- Birdi• 1. All spare lights can be found at the back of the hall.• 2. If hanging the light from the rig or a boom the Biridi

must have a safety chain.

• 5. If using colour you will also require a gel holder and you need to check it is the right size for the Birdi.

• 6. In order to isolate the light use the shutters that are permanently attached to the light.

Pin Spot• Accessories: Safety Chain,

G-Clamp, 15/13 amp plug.• Used For: Used for glitter

ball, colour can be changed with visors or with a coloured bulb. These lights would be used in museums and art gallery's as you can’t direct the light.

• Explanation: I would choose a Pin Spot over a parcan to light a disco ball as disco balls do not need a large light that would be supplied by a parcan. A smaller more direct light would be better.

Page 33: Unit 62 lighting maintenance (after comments)

Check List- Pin Spot• 1. All spare lights can be found at the back of

the hall.• 2. If hanging the light from the rig or a boom the pin spot must have a safety chain. Additional chains are situated at the back of the hall.• 3. If hanging the light from the rig attach a G-

clamp. Additional G-clamps can be found at the back of the hall on the lighting rack. • 4. Barn doors cannot be used on this light.• 5. In order to change the colour of this light you

need to use a coloured bulb or use a coloured plastic casing, both of these can be found in Julies Office.

Check List.. • Check the G-Clamp and Safety chain

are there and in correct working order. • Make sure arm doesn’t move by itself

and is secure. • Insure the focusing knob should be

able to move all the way up and down without much force. If not add IPA170 to loosen and lubricate the knob.

Page 38: Unit 62 lighting maintenance (after comments)

Fault Finding.. • Check light is on at the desk.• Go to the dimmer, make sure the

right plug is to the correct socket (patching).• Check that the dimmer and power is

on.• If non of these have fixed the fault,

find the appropriate ladder. • Check socket and plug connection in

the rig. • Check for loose wires on the plug.• Check that the bulb has not blown.
