FROM
WATERFALL
TO AGILE
Methodologies like PMP and PRINCE2 still specify a somewhat linear approach to project management. Still, it is being recognized that more adaptability is needed because of increasing complexities. This is especially evident in IT projects. More employers are requiring project managers to still have knowledge of linear waterfall methodology, but be well versed in the cyclical agile methodology as well.

VIRTUAL
TEAMS
With the world getting more global, and communication tools becoming easier to use and cheaper to install, many projects have team members that do not sit in the war room. Contractors, especially, do not have to be in the same vicinity to deliver on their milestones. Being able to effectively manage a large number of virtual teams has now become one of the key requirements for project managers.
2
PM MOBILE
APPS
Because of the increasing number of virtual project teams, technology is being used to ensure that everybody is on the same page. Mobile apps are helping to keep everyone in touch, whether they are in the office or in the air. Many think that even email will soon be replaced by messaging apps as the primary communication tool between team members.
3
CLOUD
COMPUTING
As project managers struggle to keep teams in different locations working together, there will be an increase in storing information in the cloud to ensure it is accessible anywhere. Task schedules, project management plans, risk matrices, etc., will be moved from traditional desktop storage to cloud for easier sharing among stakeholders.
