Staying hydrated at work is obviously important for one’s long-term health, but did you know that staying hydrated while at work can also benefit your productivity and mood?

By avoiding dehydration at work, you can keep your workday happier, healthier and more productive.

Next, we will discuss the benefits of staying hydrated in the workplace, and explain a few easy ways to do so.

DEHYDRATION IS BAD!

Naturally, your body will be very grumpy if it doesn’t get enough hydration.

In the short-term, there are a number of side effects to dehydration, including memory loss and inability to concentrate. These side effects can be huge motivation killers.

If you don’t keep yourself hydrated throughout the day, your entire workday could suffer from a lack of focus and attention to detail.

HOW CAN YOU HYDRATE?

There are several ways to get hydrated while at work.

Aside from the obvious option of simply drinking water, you can get water from eating a wide variety of fruits, and a smaller amount of from many vegetables. Watermelon, oranges, grapefruit, cantaloupe, and

honeydew are especially good sources of water, as well as essential vitamins and minerals.

You also gain hydration from coffee and tea. It used to be common knowledge that coffee did not hydrate, but that myth has been debunked in recent years.

HYDRATION CAN INFLUENCE MOOD

Studies have shown that dehydration can negatively influence one’s mood.

Since being in a bad mood at work is a recipe for disaster, it is important to attempt to remain hydrated throughout the day.

However, that’s not to say that any problem or sour mood you encounter can be fixed with a glass of water— but it never hurts to try!

HOW MUCH DO I NEED? The next natural question to ask is How much water

should I be drinking to remain hydrated? Unfortunately, there is no simple answer. However,

here are some useful guidelines for determining whether you should drink more water or not. If you are thirsty, drink! If your urine is lightly colored, and if there is a large

volume of urine when you urinate, then you are likely not in danger of dehydration. However, if your urine is dark colored, it’s time for some water.

If you perspire often, you should drink extra water. Some diseases, such as diabetes and heart disease,

will require one to drink more water.
