The NASDAQ market is not located on a physical trading floor, but its business is conducted on a telecommunications network. So, unlike the NYSE, people are not on a floor of the exchange matching buying and selling like the NYSE.
The NASDAQ is a dealer’s market. What is that? Find out here: http://www.investopedia.com/terms/d/dealersmarket.asp
The Nasdaq is typically known as a high-tech market and many of its companies are associated with the Internet or other electronics.
All trades on the NYSE occur at a physical place, on the trading floor of the NYSE. Check out all these people going nuts on the floor of the NYSE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7FdaiPQuDg
The NYSE is an auction market. Find out what an auction market is here: http://www.investopedia.com/terms/a/auctionmarket.asp
Most of the companies on the NYSE are perceived to be well-established companies that have been around for a good long while.
Its listings are many of the blue chip firms and industrials that have been around for generations, and they are usually established and relatively stable. The New York Stock Exchange includes many respectable companies in respect to profitability and company size.
