DESCRIPTION
Server Replication, is a new managed replication service from SunGard designed to protect customers against data loss and improve their recovery time in the event of a business interruption. It integrates fully with existing SunGard disaster recovery and managed services to give a seamless end-to-end service for customers looking to reduce their point of recovery. Why do I need it?When a business is hit by disaster, there are two key factors: the amount of information you can afford to lose (‘Recovery Point Objective’ or ‘RPO’) and the time it takes to get up and running again (‘Recovery Time Objective’ or ‘RTO’). Server Replication can improve both measures. Even organisations that have a reliable daily backup solution in place can lose as much as 24 hours’ data, depending on how much time has elapsed between the last backup and the interruption. Server Replication fills that gap by replicating information virtually instantaneously so that there is minimal, and often near zero, data loss. So customers can choose the option that meets their needs and budget, SunGard offers a two-tier service: one uses virtualisation across a ready and waiting dedicated infrastructure and gives an RTO of just 15 minutes per server while the other uses shared servers attached at time of disaster or test at a lower cost however has an RTO greater than three hours.
