Foot Control – 3 Flow Rates

USE IN NORMAL, TURBO MODES

• Depress Pedal Slightly

– ControlFlo Speed (Use for Palatal and Intraligamentary injections)

• Depress Pedal Moderately

– RapidFlo Speed• Depress Pedal Firmly

– TurboFlo Speed

Page 12: Sta Features Training Intralig.Inject. Erc

Cruise Control

• In ControlFlo Rate – ONLY• Depress foot pedal slightly• After 3 Beeps, voice prompt says

“Cruise”• Release foot from pedal• Cruise Control is activated• STA continues at ControlFlo rate • Tap foot pedal, to STOP

Aspiration

If not needed, Aspiration can be turned OFF, by pressing Aspirate button

After purging, STA defaults to Aspiration ON

Volume Control

To Change AudibleVolume:

• Press + to increase volume

• Press – to decrease volume

Page 15: Sta Features Training Intralig.Inject. Erc

Cartridge Volume

• LED lights indicate amount of anesthetic solution remaining

• STA “bongs” once when ¼ cartridge is expressed, twice when ½ is expressed, and three times when ¾ is used

Multi-CartridgeUsed for 2nd or 3rd Cartridge on Same

Patient• While plunger is retracted,

press Multi-Cartridge Button• Indicator light turns ON• Remove empty cartridge;

replace with new one• Insert cartridge holder onto

top of STA; continue injection

• STA defaults to Multi-Cartridge OFF after injection

Maintenance• A plastic barrier can be used to cover the STA• The STA can be cleaned by spraying disinfectant on a soft

towel and wiping the unit.• Every 24 cycles the STA will remind you to “Lubricate plunger

and ‘O’ ring”– Extend plunger by turning unit OFF, then Press & hold Auto

Purge/Retract button while turning STA unit ON– Lubricate plunger and “O” ring with silicone gel provided in

each box of Wand handpieces• Replace “O” ring if cracked or deteriorated• Be sure to learn about the other state-of-the-art injections

administered with the STA , such as the AMSA & P-ASA, on the web site: STAis4U.com

STA Dynamic Pressure Sensing (DPS)

• Informs the Dentist of Correct Injection Site (PDL Space) with Ascending Lights and Sounds.

• Informs the Dentist if the Needle has Left the Correct Site.• Informs the Dentist if the Needle has been Blocked.• All Feedback Information in Real Time.

Injection Sites• Maxillary Teeth

– Distal-buccal & Mesial-buccal Line Angles• Mandibular Teeth

– Distal-lingual & Mesial-lingual Line Angles• Buccal Bifurcation on some Lower Molars

• Always Start on Distal then Mesial

STA-Intraligamentary Injection Technique – Part 1

• Verify the unit is set to STA Mode• Break handpiece short to achieve better

access• Bend needle towards bevel about 10-15o

• Orient needle bevel towards the tooth and approach tooth at about 45o angle

• Place needle in gingival sulcus• Initiate Cruise Control after 3 seconds• Gently and slowly move the needle

apically until resistance is felt

Page 24: Sta Features Training Intralig.Inject. Erc

STA-Intraligamentary Injection Technique – Part 2

• Hold needle steadily in place with minimal pressure for approximately 15 seconds

• Ascending tones and lights will indicate the needle is in the correct injection site, the periodontal ligament space

• If ascending tones and lights are not initiated after 15 seconds, move needle slightly until the correct position is attained and lights and tones are seen and heard

Page 25: Sta Features Training Intralig.Inject. Erc

• The pressure sensing LED lights will change from orange to yellow to green as pressure is increased and the injection site is maintained

• When the lights attain the middle to high yellow zone, there is a good probability of successful anesthesia

• When the lights attain the green zone, there is a high probability of successful anesthesia– The STA will announce “PDL” and a series of repeating

tones will sound indicating a successful needle position• If excessive pressure is exerted or the needle is

blocked, the STA will announce “Over Pressure” and the unit will stop. Restart the injection if this occurs.

STA-Intraligamentary Injection Technique – Part 3

Page 26: Sta Features Training Intralig.Inject. Erc

STA-Intraligamentary InjectionTechnique

• Verify the STA mode is ON

• Place the needle passively in the gingival sulcus at about a 45o orientation to the vertical

• Keep the bevel towards the tooth

Page 27: Sta Features Training Intralig.Inject. Erc

STA-Intraligamentary InjectionTechnique

• Maintain the needle’s 45o orientation

• As the flow of anesthetic is started and Cruise Control is engaged, slowly and gently move the needle apically

Page 28: Sta Features Training Intralig.Inject. Erc

STA-Intraligamentary InjectionTechnique

• Continue to slowly move the needle apically until resistance is felt at the top of the PDL space

• Hold the needle in place with minimal pressure

• Wait for the STA sound and light indicators to begin

Page 29: Sta Features Training Intralig.Inject. Erc

STA-Intraligamentary InjectionTechnique

INCORRECT TECHNIQUE• Wrong Needle Orientation

(Too Vertical, not 45o)• Needle too deep into the

PDL space• Excessive Pressure on

Needle

Page 30: Sta Features Training Intralig.Inject. Erc

Technique to Eliminate Excess Anesthetic into Patient’s Mouth

• After administering the correct volume on an injection site, hit and release the foot pedal to enter the Aspiration Mode, which is six Beeps.

• After the Third Beep remove the needle from the mouth and direct the needle towards the patient’s bib, as a small amount of anesthetic will exit.

STA-Intraligamentary Injection Technique – Part 4

Page 31: Sta Features Training Intralig.Inject. Erc

• Recommended Dosage:– ½ Cartridge per site using 2% Lidocaine 1:100,000

epinephrine– ¼ Cartridge per site using 4% Articaine 1:200,000

epinephrine• Duration: 40-60 minutes• This injection is contraindicated on a tooth with

active advanced periodontal disease• Be sure to learn about the other state-of-the-art

injections administered with the STA , such as the AMSA & P-ASA, on this web site: STAis4U.com
