Why have a Social Media Unconference?

- Build on ProgM SIG conference ‘Equipping Programme Manager for Global Success’ - Leverage expertise, of membership of APM and Global PPM Community - Build knowledge / interest & … you never know create an active global SIG

Background - Why you should attend?

#apmunconf draws directly on the increased use of social media in project management generally, and the particular interest and expertise of John Chapman specifically.

John is Communications Lead for ProgM SIG and is known for his popular presentation & workshop entitled Making social media work for you in project management

ProgM SIG is working closely with Les Squires PMA - e.g. in the IPMA_Family Facebook and, with others, is actively blogging on this topic within APM site e.g. Why project professionals need to be digitally competent

APM Social media in project management group was launched in 2010. The group is ‘inactive,’ and arguably has been superseded by other channels. However, it’s long-standing existence does, at least, demonstrate a long-standing underlying interest the area.

McKinsey in Building the social enterprise [November 2013] makes the case for social media in organisation [Projects and Programmes]. It states;

“Companies are missing a potentially huge prize. The McKinsey Global Institute last year estimated that $900 billion to $1.3 trillion in annual value could be unlocked in just four

sectors by products and services that enable social interactions in the digital realm.”

Aims of the Unconference

1. To share knowledge, understanding and experience with like-minded individuals [LeMoN = Learning, Motivation & Networking]

2. To build an active global community [IPMA SIG?] to explore opportunities to promote social media / digital competence in the Project Management Community

3. To apply learning from #apmprogmconf [10 March] to build digital competence for PM Practitioners

4. To demonstrate the direct relationship between the APM Body of Knowledge and how this maps to the Social Media Prism

5. To provide specific advice on how Programme and Project personnel can apply social media techniques to improve the efficiency and efficacy of their work

6. To ‘be the change that we want to see’

We would love to see you attend and participate.
