DESCRIPTION
The scope section of project charter within the define phase of a Six Sigma project talks about establishing project boundaries, what are the areas, departments, functions, employees group on which the project will be focused. It is very important for a Six Sigma practitioner to document the scope statement so that the customer and stakeholders are clear of the benefit area the project would be focusing on. This well help in setting up the expectations right for both the parties, the six sigma team and process team. Project Scope
Purpose:
To clearly describe and gain agreement on the logical boundaries of the
project.
In Scope
Out of scope
What is within the boundaries of the project (In-scope) and what is
outside those boundaries (Out of Scope).
What is the start point and what is the stop point?
Project Scope – In frame/Out of Frame
This is a visual tool based on the analogy of a picture frame.
It challenges the team to identify those aspects of the project (the
type and extent of end results or deliverables, the people impacted,
timing, product lines impacted, sites involved etc.) which are
“in the frame” (meaning clearly within the scope of work),
“out of the frame,” or “half-in-half-out” (meaning this is either up for
debate, or some aspects are in the scope of work but only in a partial
way.)
