What are the most important trends in work safety information management in 2016?

"On the national level, digitalization is the most important trend. There is a lot of data that is not or has not been in active use or shared among all the potential users. The activation of the big data is or at least should be the trend. On the enterprise or micro level, one should "think small”. If something does not work in small enterprises, it does not work in 95 % of the enterprises.” – Leo Suomaa

"ISO 45001 safety management standard will be important assuming it will be published this year. Awareness of corporate social responsibility will improve further and support safety management.” – Jorma Saari

What is the biggest challenge in work safety information management in 2016? Why?

"Having a greater focus on safety leadership rather than safety management, in order to ensure a more effective balance between managing safety systems and motivating and engaging people. Why? Because there is often too much emphasis on documentation and statistics, we forget the human aspect.“ – Pete Kines

"Information needs to be transformed into knowledge and understanding. Pure data is useless, if you don't know how to use it or what its relevance is to you.” –Mervi Murtonen

Do you see a practice or a way of working that is going to disappear from work safety information management in 2016? Which one and why?

”How to measure the work safety as a culture. Not the accidents or near misses, but how safe the workplace really is. Again, not the LTIF and so on, but the real-time information: is it safe right now or not.” – Marko Kiema

"Things don't move that fast. I would say that if you add something new, you should always consider if it’s possible to leave something out. So, if you have a mobile system for example near miss reporting, you may be able to stop using the fixed monitor IT system for reporting cases by switching to mobile reporting. However, this is not absolutely necessary as several systems may exist concurrently.“– Pieter Jan Bots

What is your wish regarding work safety information management in 2016?

"That all the leaders from first line supervisors to CEO's take personal responsibility for the safety of the employees they lead.“– John Drebinger

”Following Eric Hollnagel's views, it would be great to have information systems recognizing also successes, not only failures (accidents).” – JormaSaari

"Getting tools and ways to get everyone involved in safety communication, making safety communication easy and fun, tools for interactive reporting and feedback.“ – Karri Koskinen
