My brother and I started a web design company in 2005 taking small local clients and doing web design and development. When people ask us the complicated question of what it is we do, I like to answer: “I sell what he makes and he makes what I sell.” Today our only employee is José Padilla, a great developer who has been with us for about 2 years, and was hired straight out of high school.

As the years went by we worked with advertising firms for many local and international brands. Today we work with a few high profile clients, such as the Puerto Rico Department of Education, creating custom web based solutions.

Receiptloader itself grew from a mix of need and ability. Our accountant had asked us to keep all our receipts; she failed to mention that we should also keep them organized. At the end of the year we had 7 plastic supermarket bags full of receipts that were mostly unreadable, crumpled, half erased pieces of paper.

Since we were doing machine, and human based recognition for some of our clients already, the light bulb hit and we created a small solution for ourselves, where we would use the recognition tools we had to organize our receipts. The reception has been great, with thousands of downloads from the app store, and great emails from users

The Service

Receiptloader.com opens to the public today releasing our iPhone app on The Apple App Store. The receiptloader app allows users to take a picture of a sales receipt and have it turned into real data. The app pulls the following data form the receipt:

• Place of sale• Sales Total• Category

It also stores the original image along with the data for quick reference. The entire process takes under 3 minutes. Once users load their receipts into the application through a quick 2 step process (open app, take picture) they can export their data into a variety of formats such as Excel, PDF, CSV, SQL, and many more to come. This allows for quick expense reports that practically create themselves.

Three plans are available for $7, $23, and $42, each adding to the amount of recognized receipts available each month (30, 100, and 500 respectively).

About the Team

Receiptloader.com is the first consumer application developed by the Puerto Rico based ML Studio team, having worked since 2005 on large company and government projects.
