INDUSTRIAL SECTOR:Introduction:

Fertile regions.Rapid industrialization. Development of small, medium and large scale industries.Enormous potential in agriculture, scientific instruments, electrical goods, machine tools, textiles, etc.

1. Agro based industry: Punjab has advanced industrialization in the farm sector.

It produces wheat, oilseeds, cotton, sugarcane, fruit, vegetables, milk, honey and other animal husbandry products.

2. Cotton Textile Industry : Punjab is a major grower of cotton.

Has a long established industry of cotton spinning and weaving.

Ludhiana textile industry contributes more than 28% of the output of Punjab.

The sugar mills in Punjab are located at Batala, Gurdaspur, Bhogpur, Phagwara, etc.

Morinda sugar mill is the biggest in Punjab with crushing capacity of 4,000 tonnes of sugarcane.

4. Petroleum Refinery: The Guru Gobind Singh Refinery in Bhatinda is the latest project to boost India's refined hydrocarbon product capacity.

The refinery produces pet coke, sulphur, aviation turbine fuel, mineral oil, kerosene oil, high speed diesel, etc.

8. Hand Tools Industry: Jalandhar is known for the manufacturing of Hand Tools like Spanner set, screw driver, nose pliers etc.

50 units are engaged in the manufacturing.

9. Surgical instruments industry: Surgical Instruments units are labour intensive units.

There are 275 units in Jalandhar providing employment to 2500 persons.
