It can be puzzling to see a stock drop 5% one day and return 5% sometimes 10% plus change over the next couple of days. Some call it volatility others call it profit taking but it does raise the question, who’s profiting? Trading was energetic this month for the Fund and profits were taken. We sold Facebook (FB), Avis Budget Group Inc. (CAR), Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) and Wells Fargo & Co. (WFC) for an average return of 6% across the board. Oil prices still continue to hinder our growth with Schlumberger (SLB) down 15%, and our recent addition of Micron Technologies (MU) is yet to “bear fruit”. Despite the markets taking a slight dip thereafter, we are poised to capture any bargain stocks should the opportunity arise. In conclusion, volatility becomes our latest factor to monitor, reduce and restrict to a minimum. Notwithstanding our long term approach and taking into consideration the ebbs and flows of the equity markets, we will continue to actively manage the Fund ensuring all boundaries are covered and secured. Portfolio ReviewFebruary portrayed itself as a market of change, punctuated with periods of intense volatility and dramatic selloffs followed by full recoveries.
