Mise-en-Scene

The setting of the video is taken

place at a nightclub and then

cuts between that and the

following morning at home. The

lighting used through the

majority of the video is low key,

this connotes to the audience

that the scene is at nighttime,

because he is walking through a

club at times. High key lighting

is also used in the extract to

portray across to the audience

that the time scale has changed

and they are watching what

happened the following

morning.

Mise-en-Scene

The costume worn when out

at night was quite casual and

stereotypical for what you

would expect people to wear

to a club. Also the clothing

worn by the band members

represented their style and

music, this is because most

people who follow this style

of music wear these styles of

clothes.

Editing

Cross cutting is used throughout the

video to connote to the viewer that

there are two different time periods

in the video; at the nightclub and

the morning after. Focus is used in

the morning scene to blur out the

girl to portray to the viewer how

the man see’s her through his eyes,

because he has just woken from a

night out of drinking. It is also used

to focus on him when he is sat on

the bed; this gives the audience the

impression that he is thinking about

what happened the night before.

Editing

Shot reverse shot is used when the

man and the girl stare at one

another across the room. This

signifies to the audience the tension

between the two of them, because

she just came out the toilet with

another boy. Fast paced editing is

used when it cuts between random

people at the club; this conveys to

the viewer that they are enjoying

themselves. However, slow paced

editing is also used when the camera

is focused on him walking through

the club. This connotes that he isn’t

enjoying himself, but is instead

worried and angry.

Camerawork

The video starts off with a mid-

shot which follows the man down

the stairs and into another

room, this gives the audience a

general first impression of

him, because they are able to see

him from the waist up. This will

portray to the audience the style

and attitude of him. Close ups are

also used throughout the video

when he is looking for the girl.

This is done in order to connote to

the viewer the worry on his face. It

is also done to show him miming

the lyrics of the song in sync.

Camerawork

A high angle shot is used to represent that

they feel bad about what happened the night

before and they feel isolated from each other.

You can tell this by the body language

connoted in the shot; they aren’t even

looking at each other and are hunched over.

Another high angle was used when the girl

was alone in the toilet, this portrayed across

to the viewer that she is feeling

lonely, isolated, and is feeling regret.

An over the shoulder shot is used to connote

to the audience that the two men are having

a conversation with one another. This shot

also allows the audience to see the facial

expressions of the person that is talking.

Sound

The video gives the

audience the impression of

diagetic sound because the

main band member is

miming the lyrics

throughout the video in

sync with the music.

However, this isn’t diagetic

because the music is edited

in afterwards, in order to

give this effective impact

on the audience.
