INDUSTRY INSIGHTS – NEWS UPDATE

Page 7: MingleMore Industry Insights - December 2011

• The 23rd European meeting and events tradeshow (EITBM) in Barcelona closed with an estimated 15,300 industry professionals in attendance - a 10% rise on last year.

• Zibrant makes three new appointments to its Board of Directors. UBM has announced James Samuel as the new event manager for International Confex. He replaces Alison Willis, who quit the post at UBM in September to become commercial director at Brand Events. Marketing Leeds also made an appointment, and Vinopolis and Convivial London Pubs also made changes.

• It has been reported that internal conferences and events are on the increase, particularly along the supply chain, in an effort to improve business performance for everyone.

• ORM London announced the launch of Event Check-in, a new iPad app that aims to streamline the event check-in process.

• It’s not just registration where delegates could benefit from App technology, as the ‘Dynamic iPad App’ from Concise tries to make presentations more engaging.

• But apps aren’t the only way to bring technology to your event, as National Radio Bank are trying to bring two-way radios into the 21st Century.

PRICING YOUR EVENT

Page 9: MingleMore Industry Insights - December 2011

• Is it ‘cynical’ to start with a ticket revenue target and divide that by the number of expected visitors?– Gives a guide as to the potential profitability of the event

• Account for two costs– Fixed– Variable

• Develop a ‘cost plus’ pricing model?

• Inevitably, price should always come down to research…

Pricing your event

Page 10: MingleMore Industry Insights - December 2011

• Based on your research: Strategies include…– Match the price of competition

– Price leader (undercut competition)

– Differentiate (price skimming) – add greater value than competitors

• Beware discounting!– You reduce value of content in eyes of delegates

– Impossible to turn back

– Require more full price delegates, probably from those that require most marketing resource

• Price influencers– Take into account criteria such as who shall collect payment, where,

when and how should payment be made
