Uses in Boat Making

If you love sailing or fishing, then you most likely own a boat. Buying a boat is not an inexpensive purchase by any stretch of the imagination. You can, however, find less expensive older boats that are not made out of fiberglass but marine plywood instead. This type of plywood is pliable and can be formed into the structure of a boat. With proper sealing on the inside and out, the marine plywood will be completely waterproof.

Uses in Dock

You will see that older docks are made from planks of wood such as 2x4s that are treated to be weatherproof. Though this is common, the lumber has to be sanded and treated each year, whereas marine plywood can go several seasons without having to have another treatment of weatherproofing.

Uses in Bathroom and Kitchen Walls

The two areas of the home that are the most prone to moisture is the kitchen and the bathroom. It is inevitable that you will spill something on the kitchen floor or have water splash on the wall. In the bathroom you have a shower, and a tub or toilet can overflow. Using marine plywood will prevent your floor from rotting and deforming.

Uses in Caravan Making

Marine plywood is use as resorting of old caravan or create a new one. While its not neccessary to use such a high grade some people do prefer it as its able to withstand any future leaks while providing years of great service.

Advantage of Marine Plywood Over Regular Plywood

Whether used as a floor or a subfloor, marine plywood resists rotting, warping and shrinking. It resists humidity from steam and can stave off absorbing stagnant water. It even holds up well against boiling water! This makes it a superb option as an underlayment for your kitchen or bathroom floor. At lumberyards, it is usually stored indoors, and this also enhances its moisture-free nature. Marine plywood is also stronger and more durable than regular plywood, which has only three layers. Marine plywood has five or more layers that are bound together with waterproof adhesive, which allows it to bear heavier loads and repel moisture from its core. As a result, you can use a thinner sheet that will have the strength of a thicker, regular sheet of plywood.
