Looking for a job during a recession Looking for a job can be stressful no matter what the economy is like. However during a recession, like what we have at the moment it can be very stressful. There is more competition from other hungry candidates looking for work, and this can decrease your chances of success. However you can try to increase your success rate by following some simple guidelines I have outlined here. There are still jobs out there and you can find work even during a recession. Think Differently Maybe you have to think differently. For example, what is your current definition of a goodjob. Is that definition still valid or do you need to change that definition? Be more open, perhaps temporary work is now okand good. Or perhaps you are willing to start to freelance, or at least give it a try. Think outside of the box and think about other possibilities and opportunities. Settle For Something Different Although ideally you would like a certain type of job, perhaps with the way the economy is you need to settle for something a little be different from your ideal. Just because you dont get your ideal job does not mean that you cant continue to search for your ideal job. Having worked with recruiters I know that they prefer to see someone who has constantly been working rather than someone who has gaps in the CV/Resume while they waited for the ideal job. I dont mean you have to get a job you will hate but rather a job you can tolerate to keep the cash coming in. Why Do They Get From You? Ask yourself what do you have to offer a company. After all they will want to know what is in it for them. This exercise of writing down what you have to offer will help you create a good list of strengths that you have.
