“This is outrageous. Lincoln Park belongs to the people of Chicago -- and we do not go to Lincoln Park to see Astroturf. I find it difficult to believe there was no other place for this to be built, and no opportunity for public discussion.”

- Jane Gaitskill

“It's ‘public’ land, since when is City of Chicago. giving away prime location land to any builders or business? Let Latin pay market rates for the use of it just as any land developer would have to, i.e., millions and millions and put that into our streets and improving the 'public' schools.”

“It is sad and unfortunate to take the little public park space this city has to offer and give it to a private entity.”

“There are so many great alternatives to create monetized opportunities for the CPD. That area could be recreated to benefit everyone that walks that path for whatever reason. There are people from all over the world that stop before they cross the bridge. Why not make this area something wonderful, for everyone. I'd publicize this as the city is trying to win the Olympics. Do you know how many people will walk that path and see that eyesore. It diminishes the value of Lincoln Park and Chicago.”

“All of our parks are intended for use by the public, free of charge and free of private privately used structures, advertising and artificial turf. The beauty and integrity of Lincoln Park is an amenity that belongs to all people in Chicago not just a few well connected special interests.”

- Enid Winters

“Very distressing to see this simply rammed through. This is NOT how the process is supposed to work. And NOT what Lincoln Park is supposed to be. The soccer field project needs to be stopped.”

- Alan Rose

“This privatization process began a long time ago with the City getting rid of so many union jobs, extended to the Park District who did the same and then began charging for everything. This is the ultimate.”

- Mimi Harris

“I have lived in Lincoln Park for 34 years, and even had a child at the Latin School. I am opposed to this private deal with the Latin School.”

“I don't believe it is right for a public park to be sold off for a private school's use. I know that all over the city private lands have taken chunks of what had been public parks and it has to stop with our most well known and cherished park!”

“As a teacher in Old Town, I occasionally take my first grade class to the park. Latin School has banned us from prime play space, because they claim it's reserved for their use only. As a Chicago resident, and an active runner on the lakefront path, I find this deal with Latin School to be very upsetting.”

“This is simply a outrageous land grab by Latin School. They have some extremely wealthy parents. They should ask for donations from these rich parents in order to buy the land south of the school.”

“Taking away the rights of 99+% of park users to enjoy this space with their own activities, solitary, as well as fairs, exhibitions, etc which do not impose any insult to the landscape, strikes me as incredibly selfish, insensitive and disrespectful of the rights of others, to whom this park belongs just as much as it does to the 1% who will use this facility.”

- Lita Grier

“I strongly oppose the Latin School using a public park for its own interests. As a taxpayer, the idea that the Latin School is proposing the use is an insult. Is it not bad enough that the school is rotting away the area like a bad cavity?”
