Investment Map – GUIDED TOUR
When you log into the Investment Map portal you will see four modules indicated by four tabs at the top of the page. By default, you will be directed to the first module: “identify industries for inward investment” for your country.
This module contains four types of information: Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), foreign affiliates, international trade and tariffs.
Note: this Guided Tour is designed to show functionalities only, and is provisional. A full user Guide, including detailed notes on content and analytics, is under construction.

Module 1: Identify industries for inward investment
By default, economic activities (or industries) are ranked in descending order according to the amount of inward investment flows. Therefore, for the selected country, it displays at the top of the screen, the industries that have attracted the most foreign investment in the last year for which data are available. You can sort the economic activities by type of activity (primary in yellow, secondary in blue, services in pink). You can also analyse the information at the aggregate level, by type of activity (primary in yellow, secondary in blue, services in pink).

A new window opens and shows the World Investment Directory file for the selected country (a pdf file). It includes metadata on FDI as well as a historical evolution of FDI data; classified by type of investment, geographic origin, and industry, when available.
It also includes some information on the largest transnational corporation located in the country

By clicking on the “+” sign on the “Foreign Affiliates” heading, information on the activities of foreign affiliates located in the country are presented. Although not exhaustive, this data is a useful complement to the data on FDI (see data limitations).

For the “Trade” sub-module, information up to the 6-digit level of the Harmonised System (HS) is available. This allows you to identify the leading export products of the selected country for each industry.

By default all Brazil’s current export markets are shown but you can select a group of countries of interest, to which Brazil belongs.

A new window lists the tariffs faced by the country’s exporters for the selected industry. This option opens a Market Access Map* session. In this window, you can sort the partner countries by level of protection.

Cross-country comparisons of data on FDI and foreign affiliates, though, are delicate* and must be used with care
