How to design a DPS in Indesign
• First you open In design, then you create a new document.
• The new document should be A4.• It should also have columns, it is suggested to
have 1-3 of them. The pages should be facing pages.
• And in total there needs to be 4 pages so that the contents page and front cover can be included.
• Next the guttering is the spaces in-between the columns.
• Then clicking on the pages icon, I deselected allow document pages to shuffle. Which then meant I could re arrange the pages so that it went, front cover, contents then double page spread.
• Click the text tool, in the tool bar and drag it over any area to create a text box.
• Next enter any text and change the font and size to fit the needs.
• You can then add colour and stroke to your text by selecting the different colours layers in the fill tool. As well as changing the thickness of the stroke around your text.
• Next I created a stand first, which is the introduction into the article. It is separated to the rest of the article. I did this by adding text.
• To create text of the rest of the article into columns, create a text box then click on type and select fill with place holder text.
• If your text isn't all completely showing, you need to link it to another text box on another page to allow it all to be shown. You do this by clicking on the red plus box and then drag it into another text box.
• Drop cap, goes over a few lines in the first paragraph of your article. Next select the paragraphing icon and increase the length the text will drop in the paragraph, usually 2-3 ranging.
• By line, a label of who the article is produced by.
• Picture- file then place.• Then to format you do window and text wrap
and the text should appear around the text.
• Picture caption-• Select , text frame options , the ignore text
wrap and it should appear in a white box- on the image.
• Pull quote- in the middle of an article- good to fill in gaps.
