Hoboken New Jersey and Hurricane Sandy Out of all of the cities that were drastically affected and damaged by Hurricane Sandy, Hoboken in New Jersey was definitely one of the cities that were featured at the top of the list. There were a lot of saddening images and video footage released to the press and the media for international exposure, but none of them were able to fully depict just how bad things within such a short period of time after Hurricane Sandy had finally made her way to the New Jersey and New York area. The Damaging Presence of a Horrendous Hurricane All of the streets were severely flooded, which made traveling throughout Hoboken nearly impossible. It was extremely dangerous just to be able to travel short distances because of the inclement conditions of the roads and even many homes and buildings. While other states may have had minor damage caused by the hurricane as it traveled through their cities, it seems as if it saved all of its strength and damaging power for the state of New Jersey. Entire neighborhoods were destroyed. Iconic boardwalks that have been enjoyed for many years by residents and tourists alike were completely washed away with the floodwaters and inclement weather caused by the hurricane. For millions of people, the beautiful city of Hoboken (like many other cities throughout the state) was drastically changed forever. The Extent of the Damage Done Studies and statistics have been able to confirm that the state of New Jersey did not just suffer a few hundred thousand or even a few hundred million dollars in property damage from Hurricane Sandy, as other states that were directly affected by the same hurricane did. On the contrary, estimates show that there was several billion dollars in property damage claims that were filed because of the hurricane from this one state alone.

Hoboken New Jersey and Hurricane Sandy

Out of all of the cities that were drastically affected and damaged by Hurricane Sandy, Hoboken

in New Jersey was definitely one of the cities that were featured at the top of the list. There were

a lot of saddening images and video footage released to the press and the media for international

exposure, but none of them were able to fully depict just how bad things within such a short period

of time after Hurricane Sandy had finally made her way to the New Jersey and New York area.

The Damaging Presence of a Horrendous Hurricane

All of the streets were severely flooded, which made traveling throughout Hoboken nearly

impossible. It was extremely dangerous just to be able to travel short distances because of the

inclement conditions of the roads and even many homes and buildings. While other states may

have had minor damage caused by the hurricane as it traveled through their cities, it seems as if it

saved all of its strength and damaging power for the state of New Jersey.

Entire neighborhoods were destroyed. Iconic boardwalks that have been enjoyed for many years

by residents and tourists alike were completely washed away with the floodwaters and inclement

weather caused by the hurricane. For millions of people, the beautiful city of Hoboken (like many

other cities throughout the state) was drastically changed forever.

The Extent of the Damage Done

Studies and statistics have been able to confirm that the state of New Jersey did not just suffer a

few hundred thousand or even a few hundred million dollars in property damage from Hurricane

Sandy, as other states that were directly affected by the same hurricane did. On the contrary,

estimates show that there was several billion dollars in property damage claims that were filed

because of the hurricane from this one state alone.

Millions of people were left without any source of power to their homes and businesses for several

days and even weeks after the storm had already passed through them. The death toll gradually

increased each day during the aftermath of the storm as more and more bodies were discovered

on the streets and within various buildings throughout the state. President Barack Obama took

plenty of time away from his election campaign to address just how bad things were in New Jersey

after the storm.

Getting Everything Back on Track

Even though things looked grim for the state of New Jersey, they gradually were able to get

everything back in order several months after the hurricane. The residents of both New Jersey

and New York were clearly aware that they have been through much worse conditions in the past

that seemed horrendous at first but brought them together in the end.

That is exactly what took place during the aftermath of the hurricane as millions of residents

throughout the state of New Jersey joined together to help clean their streets, repair the damage

and work diligently towards getting their cities back to where they once were before the storm hit.

While the journey is not yet over, they are still taking every day in stride as they work towards an

eventual recovery that will take place in the near future.
