Global Initiative on Food Loss and Waste Reduction

is an FAO programme in the current and next Strategic Framework.-AWARENESS: campaigning and information sharing

-PARTNERSHIPS: Collaboration and coordination of world-wide initiatives

-RESEARCH: Policy, strategy and programme development

-PROJECTS: implementing programmes, activities

Global Initiative on Food Loss and Waste Reduction

Only the actors in the food production and distribution systems can reduce food losses at any significant scale.

The role of FAO and other public organizations in this respect is to do research, coordinate, provide guidance, and support the improvement of the enabling environment for the private sector to invest and act.

No Organization knows it all, and therefore we actively seek support from, and involve, other organizations and companies to provide specific knowledge and experience.

FAO has a dual role in the Save Food Initiative:

1. Coordinator / SecretariatThe Save Food Initiative does in no way force activities, methodologies or strategies upon its members, but values everybody’s own way of solving the problems. Save Food will support by connecting partners where applicable, providing advice and promoting + facilitating support from partners to each other, thus creating collaboration and synergy.

FAO has a dual role in the Save Food Initiative:

Our vision is that initiatives and organizations/ companies world-wide join the Save Food network, and share with EACH OTHER their work, problems and solutions.

It is not in the first place about partnering with FAO, but rather partnering with each other.

Think-Eat-Save is a campaign against food waste, conceived and implemented by UNEP, as part of the Save Food Initiative.
