WHAT IS A GRANT & HOW DO I GET
ONE A grant is an award of money given to you
(grantee) by a grantor to deliver a specific programme of activities as designed, for which you are expected to comply with the requirements of the grantor.
Grantee is the recipient of a grant v Grantor is the funder or grant making organisation.

WHAT IS A GRANT & HOW DO I GET

A grant award is a contract between two or more organisations (or persons) for funds awarded to be used to deliver agreed outputs and outcomes within an agreed timeline and in compliance with certain policies.

WHAT IS A GRANT & HOW DO I GET ONE
Grants can be applied for by an organisation in need of funding for its project- usually through an application form or a written proposal document.
On the other hand, an organisation can be invited to bid for grants to deliver a project through what is known as a call for proposal or request for proposal.

PLANNING FOR SUCCESS IN
RAISING GRANT FUNDINGBefore you get focussed on the amount of grants needed you must be clear about the answers to these questions.
A. What is the problem your organisation wishes to solve?
B. Does your organisation have the technical know how and management capacity to solve the problem?
C. How much money is required to solve the problem?
D. What proportion of the funds required is to be funded through grants?
E. What do you have to do to get the results needed to solve the problem- the better designed your programme or

PLANNING FOR SUCCESS IN
RAISING GRANT FUNDING Effective grant writing is all about demonstrating your
organisation’s capacity to solve a problem that is desperate and urgent and for which grants funding is necessary to deliver a set of coherent and integrated solution that is aligned to funders’ requirements.
This means the process is holistic and robust enough to ensure grantor is not exposed to financial and reputational risks.

STRATEGIC ALIGNMENT FOR
SUCCESS Funders have strategic plans they must achieve and they
need proposals with strategic fit.
Grant proposals should be checked for alignment and must communicate:
-Why a project deserves to exist?
- What is the problem you are trying to solve?
- What is the issue you wish to address?
- What groups of people are affected – profile, number, age, gender (this is your target beneficiaries/ market)?
- Is the problem currently being addressed?

STRATEGIC ALIGNMENT FOR
SUCCESS
- How is the problem currently being addressed and by whom?
- What are the present strengths and weaknesses of those addressing the problem?
- How much will it cost to deliver the project?
- Who will be involved in the delivery?
- How will the project be managed?
- When do you expect to achieve the key milestones?
