Types of Doors
Interior Door Exterior Door
Introduction of Interior Doors
• Interior Doors are the passageway between rooms.• They are smaller and lighter compared to Exterior
Doors.• They have no sill, since airflow beneath the door is
usually welcomed inside a home.• Interior doors do not always have to be between
rooms, but they can separate a bedroom from a closet space. This is usually done via sliding doors in order to save space.

Functions of Interior Doors
• Passage doors swing open and close on two or more leaf hinges, and are the most commonly used doors in homes.
• Louver doors are typically used for closets, utility rooms and laundry rooms because they provide ventilation and privacy.
• Sliding doors or bypass doors are typically used on areas that have wide openings, like a closet or master bathroom, and slide from left to right.

• Bi-fold doors are generally used to enclose a closet, pantry or laundry area.
• French doors hang on hinges located at each side of a wide door opening and swing toward each other, meeting at the center.
• Pocket door is a door that is not set on hinges to swing open, but that slides in and out of a space hidden within the wall.

• Exterior Doors serve as the entry and exit to a house.• They have sill and weather strips.• They are the main attraction of the house as they are
on the front.• Exterior Doors are bigger and heavier.

Functions of Exterior Doors
• Durability is one of the main characteristics of an Exterior Door. It needs to be able to provide protection from rain, wind, heat and cold.
• Safety is another very important function of an Exterior Door. It needs to be able to provide safety and security to the people and possessions inside the house.
• Exterior Doors should be energy efficient and environmentally friendly.
