Roughly between 1870 and 1920, a new era of mass production began in the United States because of a favorable patent system, new factory organization, an abundant supply of natural resources, and foreign investment (America’s History).

The labor force came from the millions of immigrants that began flowing into the United States, mostly from Europe, looking to escape poverty and attain ‘the American Dream’.

EXPANSION

Manifest Destiny is without a doubt that moment of American expansion that sticks out in the minds of many, and captures the perfect picture of the country’s early beliefs regarding expansion. Divine right was preached by many, saying that Americans were chosen by God to own the unsettled land west of the colonies.

AMERICAN EXPANSION

The relationship between expansion and industrialism is not as obvious as the other pairs of themes in American history; however, there is a way they connect. As one country or society expands, be it literally or in some other method, the economy must grow as well. Throughout history, nations have become world powers through the process of industrialization, many going through what is called an “Industrial Revolution”. The Industrialization of an economy allows it to grow alongside the expanding nation, and the same can be applied vice-versa.
