Egg Osmosis Experiment
Ethan Courchene 816
PurposeThe purpose is to
observe osmosis in a cell
1) Place eggs in vinegar to remove the shell
2) Measure the weight of the egg using a balance
Purpose 3) Measure the size of
the eggs using string and measuring tape
4) Place one egg in corn syrup place the other in water
5) Weigh and measure the eggs again
Hypothesis Corn syrup eggo Size- It going to
expand in sizeo Weight- Its going to
weigh moreo Looks- Its going to
look orange and its going to be sticky
Water eggo Size- It will have the
same weighto Weight- It will have
the same weighto Looks- It will look the
way it did before
Materials Eggs Balance String Measuring tape Water Corn syrup Two beakers Vinegar
Observations 1)Bubbles from the
egg to top
2)More bubbles at top and eggs are floating
3)Still floating and foam at the top

Before Weight- 67 gSize- 16.1 cm
AfterWeight- 44 gSize- 13.2 cm
BeforeWeight- 77.4 gSize- 16 cm
AfterWeight- 91.9 gSize- 17.5 cm
Observations 1) After vinegar- The
egg looked cracked
2) After syrup 24 hours- It looked smaller and it looked shriveled
3) After water 24 hours- It looked bigger
Conclusion Water egg
Water went in the egg and made the egg larger
Corn syrup egg
Water inside of the egg left the egg and went to the corn syrup
