Food in the Environment?

• We recycle our food waste in the silver caddy. We have one in the dining room, packed lunch hall and even our teachers have one in the staff room! You might even have one at home...

What can go in the silver caddy’s?

Food In the Environment

What happens to the silver caddy food?

• It goes to a factory in Cumbernauld

• The food is separated form the bags in a machine

• The food is then mixed with tiny creatures called microorganisms who munch on it.

• The little beasties make a bio gas which is then used as a renewable energy source to power over 1000 homes.

• The food waste is also used as a fertiliser by Scottish farmers.
