Make sure there is demand for what you plan to sell.

If your business is struggling, consider new products and services.

If your offer is not unique, wanted or priced well, it won’t sell. Marketing won’t help. FaceBook and Twitter won’t help.

Get Your Message Right

Make sure people understand and want what you are selling.

Pizza? Say pizza. Don’t say “we offer a unique dining experience of a flat round thing covered with tomato sauce and cheese.”

If you sell a service, be clear. For example, if you sell an editing service, don’t say “I fix books.” Say, “I offer a complete editing service of your completed manuscript. I will tune the words and correct the grammar to enhance your chances of getting your book published.”

Be clear about what you are selling. And above all, be unique.

Boring does not sell.

Innovation is the key to long term survival. Many businesses fail because they were once very successful and then stopped innovating.

You are never done. Remember! Entropy never stops eating away at your progress.

Now you can start marketing.

Start with your own website. Get the message right on your site.

Next: Google’s pay-per-click advertising. That’s the most efficient way to build sales if you done the previous steps.

Shoot for as few clicks with the most calls to your business as possible. That’s right. Lots of clicks but no calls isn’t good. The ideal would be that every click lead to a call which lead to a sale, right?

Social Media? Maybe.See that? A big MAYBE. Social media, Facebook, Twitter and Google+ probably won’t don’t anything for your business.

If you answer your phone and personally interact with your customers, you will gain more than if you spend hours posting on social media.

People don’t want businesses as friends. They do seek like-minded communities. If you do use social media, be prepared to make a big investment in time and energy.
