Difference between V belt and Timing Belt

V Belt:- V belt is the belt seen externally under the bonnet driving the water pump, alternator for

battery charging and the cooling fan drive for the radiator. Another V belt is also found to drive the air-con pulley from the same crankshaft pulley. Worn out belts can be visually inspected by their look or by slackness beyond tension adjustment.

V-belts were the standard accessory [alt, Power steering, WP, AC] drive belt before the serpentines.

The V belt connects all of your pulleys, runs your alternator, air conditioner, water pump etc. A V belt is smooth. Properties

Constant length L = L per ISO specifications Temperature range from -40°c up to +70°c Meets anti-static requirements from ISO 1813 Resistant to dust Meets RoHS and REACH requirements

Application

Nowadays, classical V-Belts are primarily considered for replacement requirements. Indeed new designs will be chosen for the more efficient cogged raw edge V-Belts.Thanks to several decades of manufacturing experience, our classical V-Belts can be used on numerous agricultural or industrial applications.

V belt is shaped like a V and drives things like power steering pump, alternator and air con compressor. Commonly cars have more than 1 V-belt btw.

Timing Belt:- Timing belt is a special cogged (toothed) belt driving the the camshaft and covered by the timing

case. Replacement of timing belt is a specialist job as mismatch of timing marks while installing a new timing belt would result in change of valve timings & cause misfire.

Timing belts are normally covered and run from a crankshaft pulley to the camshaft, hence Timing the cam; they may also run a balancer, oil pump and over or under an idler/tensioner.

Timing belt is inside a cover and it connects the crankshaft with your camshaft to keep your valves opening properly.

A timing belt has cogs so it can't slip.

Properties Our Curvilinear Tooth Timing belts have been manufactured to match the highest European design requirement.

Temperature range from -30°c up to +80°c Moderate resistance to common oils, good resistance to heat and cold

environment Low noise, high speed ratio, high speed belt Meets RoHS and REACH requirements

Application

Our classical Trapezoidal Timing belts feature non-slip, no maintenance, no lubrications and no high initial tension allowing their application in various industry fields. Our Timing belts are suitable from light load drives such as small precision machinery (ie. computing, office equipment, sewing machines…) to medium duty applications (ie. machines tools, washing machines…) and some heavier duty applications such as woodworking, paper or printing equipment.

Timing belt is toothed on the inner-side and drives the valve train in the head of the engine and most of the time the water pump.
