* A Convergent Boundary is a large word scientists use to describe two objects that come together.

* The Earth’s plate tectonics. The two objects coming together are like large plate-like pieces of the Earth’s crust. As the two push together, one is ultimatley forced down beneath the other.

QuickTime™ and aTIFF (Uncompressed) decompressorare needed to see this picture.

* We see the Earth above the two meeting plates rise, forming mountain ranges.

* The only natural place a convergent boundary is located is below or on the Earth’s crust. Of course, we cant actually see it since its so deep in the Earth where the heat is so intense, so no human could possibly stay alive long enough to witness these “plates”.

◊ A paralellel oceanic trench typically forms a tiny bit off the shore when one plate descends deep into the Earth’s core. These boudaries usually cause volcanoes to develop.

◊ However, when the plates rub together, a number of small or large earthquakes occur causing pain and panic throughout. Unless they’re the ones that you can barely feel.

Simply enough, scientists believe that the Convergent Boundaries have been around as long as the Earth’s creation. If you really think about it, that’s are pretty darn long time. That’s even before

the dinosaurs roamed the land! WOW
