Newsleer 3 Fall 2010 T he City of Sonthofen hosted the third COMUNIS-Meeng. Besides intensive project work, the project team was able to gain insights into the specic situaon in the German COMUNIS pilot re- gion Alpsee-Grünten. From 7-9 June 2010, the German project partners City of Sonthofen and Bosch & Partner GmbH wel- comed the COMUNIS-partnership in the upper Allgäu. The German Alpine Space Contact Point, Mr. Florian Ballnus, as well as Mr. Claus Hensold of the Bavarian En- vironment Agency (Landesamt für Umwelt, LfU) as project observer took part in the meeng. The three meeng days were lled with dis- cussions and intensive exchange of informaon on current tasks among all pro-ject partners. The meeng focused in parcular on the debate about the dierent models of Commercial Locaon Development (CLD). On the basis of theorecal models and studied best pracce examples, opons for implemenng inter-municipal CLD were discussed with view to the situaon and development objec- ves in the individual pilot regions of the project partners. For Alpsee- Grünten, a eld trip to various re- gional commercial areas revealed the strengths and weaknesses of the pilot area. This analysis of the business locaon highlighted the major importance of an inter-mu- nicipal strategy on CLD with a fo- cus on land use development and markeng for the Alpsee-Grünten region. At Sonthofen, work package (WP) 6 was ocially launched. WP 6 is based on the results of the Bal- ance Score Card (BSC) and the general strategy development of the previous WPs 4 and 5 (Exami- naon and Development). It aims at the implementaon of suitable CLD joint acons and their tesng in the pilot regions. Sandra Feuerstein Stadt Sonthofen Alpine Space Programme - European Territorial Cooperaon 2007-2013 1 In spring 2010, the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) was imple- mented in all pilot regions. To gather relevant data about the current situaon in the pilot region and its specic de- velopment perspecve, the project partners interviewed local stakeholders. According to the partners feedbacks on their experiences with the implementaon, this diagnosis tool has proven its value in highlighng common challenges and opportu- nies to be addressed in the upcoming strategy develop- ment (WP 5) and implementaon phase (WP 6) (see g. 1). The exibility in the applicaon of the method - that means the combinaon of quantave and qualitave data - or the oponal extension of the tool by addional elds of research, oered a further advantage in implemenng the BSC.
