Vietnam and Indonesian Cardiac Rhythm Management Market Overview
• Although interventional cardiology procedures have been performed in Indonesia since as early as 1984, growth in terms of infrastructure and workforce remains relatively low.
• The number of facilities to perform electrophysiology procedures and interventional cardiology is as low as 6 and 17, respectively, for a cardiac-disease-affected population of 17.0 million.
• Similarly, Indonesia has only 5 competent physicians to perform electrophysiology, and 20 for interventional cardiology procedures.

•In the field of cardiac rhythm management, advancements in the field of cardiology and interventional cardiology have witnessed rapid growth over the past 10 years. Annually, there are around 15,000 cases of coronary, valvular, and congenital heart diseases in Vietnam.
•Vietnam has 21 centers that perform cardiac surgeries. However, only 13 centers perform cardiac rhythm management procedures and most of them are concentrated in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
•Though there are more than 100 cardiologists in Vietnam, physicians specializing in cardiac rhythm management procedures are limited to 30.

Market Trends
• In Indonesia, cardiac disease was prevalent in 7.2 percent of the population (17.7 million) in 2010.
• Cardiac prevalence is higher among women, and predominantly in homemakers. This is attributed to lack of physical activity and uncontrolled nutrition.
• According to studies conducted by the Ministry of Health, risk of cardiac disease is high in households with a high expenditure. It is high in urban areas, and mostly remains undiagnosed due to lack of awareness of the symptoms.
• The Ministry of Health estimates that 2.1 million of the population are affected by arrhythmic disorders.
• Conventional interventional cardiology procedures were introduced in Indonesia in 1995, but advanced interventions that require device implants are being performed only in recent years.

•According to studies conducted by the Ministry of Health, it has been observed that CVD in Vietnam is on the rise at an alarming levels. The Vietnam National Health Survey (VNHS) estimated that the prevalence of hypertension was 16.9 percent among people aged 25–65 years. By 65 years of age, around half of all men and women in Vietnam are expected to suffer from hypertension. •It is also found that the prevalence obesity in adults is 6.4 percent in Ho Chi Minh City, contributing to the fact that CVD is an emerging public health problem in urban areas.
•Vietnam is working on a universal health care system. The government plans to cover all Vietnamese people under insurance by 2014. This new system in Vietnam would force all citizens to be covered under the universal health care system, even if some would rather be on a private plan with more benefits.
•As of 2010, 62 percent of the Vietnamese population (52.96 million) were covered under insurance. Of this number, 14.96 million were poor people, 8.12 million were under the age of 6, 9.89 million were students, and 3.7 million were under the voluntary program
