The certification process There are 10 steps to achieving certification to a management system with BSI: The route to certification Notes: Buy the standard Before you begin preparing for your application, you’ll need a copy of the standard. You should read this and make yourself familiar with it. Step 1 Notes: Make contact Give BSI a call and tell us what you need, so we can identify the best services for your organization. We’ll then give you a proposal detailing the cost and time involved in your assessment cycle. Step 2 Notes: Complete the application Completing the application is a formal recognition of your organization applying for certification with BSI. Step 3 Notes: Your assessment team is appointed After you have applied for registration with BSI, we’ll assign you a dedicated Client Manager, who will be your main point of contact throughout the process – and beyond. They’ll be familiar with your business area and will support you as you move forward to assessment and certification. Step 4 Notes: Plan your training and implementation Our range of workshops, seminars and training courses can help you ensure that your staff are fully aware of your aims and their role in the process. At the same time, thinking now about how you will measure, manage and demonstrate compliance will pay dividends later on in the process. Gap AnalysisWe can carry out an optional Gap Analysis, also called a Pre-Assessment, of your existing

management system against the requirements of the standard and identify any omissions or

weaknesses that need resolving before your assessment.

Notes:

Assessment – Stage 1At the Stage 1 assessment the core architecture of your management system is reviewed

and the planning for the remainder of the certification process is discussed.

Notes:

Assessment – Stage 2A Stage 2 assessment of the implementation of your management system will be carried out on site

within an agreed timescale. Your management system usually needs to be fully implemented for

approximately three months before the Stage 2 assessment takes place.

Certificate awardedFormal recognition that your organization meets the required targets to be awarded certification

with BSI. At the point of certification we can help you with publicity pieces, a formal certificate

presentation, Just4Customers website and the use of the BSI logo.

Certification and beyondWe will come and re-assess you every year, ensuring that you are not only maintaining the standard

of your certification but also that you are experiencing continuous improvement.
