Former Engro CEO Asad Umar is a revered figure in the corporate world. At just 50 years of age, he has achieved more than what many achieve in a lifetime. Having served as the youngest CEO and President of Engro Corporation for eight years during his 27 year career with the company

EARLY LIFE :
Asad Umar was born at Rawalpindi on 25th March 1961 His father was an Army Officer Asad Umar has five brothers and one sister Asad Umar is the youngest of all his siblings Childhood Dream JOB :While growing up, he wanted to be a GD pilot. In fact, the F104 Starfighter was the first love of his life.
EARLY EDUCATION :He completed primary and secondary studies from C.B School now it is (F.G Sir Syed School Mall Rd. Rawalpindi Cantt)
After Retirement of his Father his family moved to KarachiAsad Umar Compeleted his Bachelor in Commerce from Government College, Karachi in 1982 He was an average student throughout his academic career but performed well in University

He graduated as an MBA from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi in n 1984 with the highest GPA in the class.
· HE MET HIS WIFE AT IBA (SAME BATCH) BUT SHE GRADUATED IN 86'· CAPTAINED THE IBA CRICKET TEAM.· STOOD FOR BASC ELECTIONS FOR OFFICE BEARERS (GENERAL SECRETARY) BUT LOST.
He met his wife at IBA (same batch) but she graduated in 86'· Captained the IBA cricket team.· Stood for BASC elections for Office Bearers (General Secretary) but lost.

SOURCE OF INSPIRATION :Inspiration has always come from the poetry of Iqbal and from reading books dealing with literature, history, sports and wars etc. My father, who was a student assistant of Quaid-e-Azam, has also been a great source of inspiration.
FAMILY :Asad Umar is a family man.He got married in 1988 and has two kids both of them are currently studying in United Kingdom.He always loves to spend quality time with his family.He also gives the credit of his better professional life to his wife and always listens to the advices and suggestions of her.

For someone who became CEO at 42 and increased the company’s revenues from Rs13 billion to Rs114 billion in about seven years, the decision to retire at 50 did not take many people by surprise.

Umar took Engro from being a local player to a globally competitive one, leading the firm into the $1.1 billion project that set up the world’s largest single-train urea manufacturing plant in Pakistan.

History of Engro corporation
In 1957, the search for oil by Pak Stanvac, an Esso/Mobil joint venture led to the discovery of the Mari Gas field near Daharki – a small, remote area in Upper Sindh province at the time. Esso proposed the establishment of a urea plant in that area which led to a fertilizer plant agreement signed in 1964. In the subsequent year, Esso Pakistan Fertilizer Company Limited was incorporated, with 75% of the shares owned by Esso and 25% by the general public.
From Esso to Exxon
As part of an international name change program, Esso became Exxon in 1978 and the Company was renamed Exxon Chemical Pakistan Limited.

Corporation Limited, is the Corporation’s newest initiative is aimed at establishing an open access, merchant floating storage re-gasification terminal with a storage capacity of 3.5mtpa under the LNG Policy 2011. Through the establishment of the terminal, the Company will market its capacity to LNG Buyers for storage and regasification of LNG purchased.

In 1997 Asad Umar lead the feasibility studies and took the initiative of Engro Polymer. He became the first CEO of Engro polymer but it could not prosper and went into loss.

During the tenure of Asad Umar there is a Urea scandal that Fauji Fertilizer and Engro Fertilizer was fined Rs 5.5 Billion and 3.14 Billion respectively by CCP.They increased the price of Urea bag from Rs 850 to Rs1580 in 2010.It was also said that this increase cause artificial inflation of Food products.
