What is Discrimination?
“Discrimination occurs when a person is treated unfairly because of a certain characteristic they possess”

Beliefs and opinions Physical and mental
disabilities Colour Nationality Physical
Appearance
Examples of Discrimination in the workplace Eg 1. Employing an Australian with a
European background over an Aboriginal Australian.
Eg 2. Choosing not to interview a person with a foreign name.
Eg 3. Giving men higher rates of pay than women who do the same job.
Anti-Discrimination In Workforce These problems can and must be avoided
with the use of the following laws;
-Racial Discrimination Act 1975
-Sex Discrimination Act 1984
-Affirmative Action Act 1986
-NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977
What the Laws Do
These laws attempt to give equal opportunity to all workers to advance in a firm on the basis of merit and not be held back by unfair prejudices against them.
