Are you considering putting your fridge in storage? If you are, then you're in luck. This article will teach you how to get your good old refrigerator ready either for long-term or short-term safekeeping. As you may know, you have to prepare this particular item and "pack" it properly to ensure that it will remain in good condition. Otherwise, it will stop functioning and even cause potential damage to the other items stored in your rented space.

Step No 1. When storing your fridge in your Balmain storage unit, the first obvious step is to remove all the foodstuff and perishable items that are kept inside it. Then, start defrosting the refrigerator. If it has a built-in icemaker, make sure that you disable this function, too. However, don't forget to place a deep bowl or container under the fridge or you'll have to deal with a lot of melted ice later on.

Step No 2. Leave the door of the fridge open for at least 24 hours. This will help the ice melt faster. Meanwhile, always remember that you must never store any item that is wet or damp in your storage unit. It is because it promotes mould growth. Therefore, make sure your fridge has been thoroughly defrosted and bits and pieces of ice have been completely removed.

Step No 3. Remove all the drawers and racks inside your refrigerator and then wash them thoroughly. See to it that you remove all stains and bits of food that got stuck on them, as well as on the sides of the fridge. Failing to wash them properly can potentially result in bug and mice infestation once you store the fridge in your Balmain storage unit.

Step No 4. For hard-to-remove stains, you should soak the part in hot water for at least an hour. This will help loosen up the dirt, thus, making it easier for you to get rid of it completely. In case your fridge developed a very unpleasant smell after you have defrosted it, you should mix a solution of water and bleach. Then, wipe the inside the fridge with the mixture to disinfect it. Let it dry before placing the appliance in storage.

Step No 5. Return all the refrigerator's detachable parts to their respective places. Then, double-check if the fridge is completely dry. When you place the fridge in your storage unit, make sure that the unit's door is slightly open to promote air circulation inside. Then, cover the fridge with an old blanket or linen to keep dust and dirt off.
