Just got off the phone with a client in commercial real estate
He had a lot of questions about cold emailing, Namely:
“Every real estate agent is sending emails like this, why do the ones from
InspireBeats work?”
It’s a great question - so I’ll answer it here.
This presentation is great for anyone in an outbound heavy industry like:
SEO, Social Media Management, Commercial Real Estate, PoS Systems,
Mobile App Development, Content Marketing, PPC, Consulting, etc
Or lead generation companies like InspireBeats
Basically I’ll run through why 99.99% of cold emails get it wrong
And what you can do better
Let’s get into it..
3 Tips for Cold Emailing In A Competitive Industry
1. Be more direct, write shorter messages
Let me show you something:
These are typical cold emails, notice how long they are
How your eyes glaze over as your mouse goes straight to the delete button
Better to do something like this:
Short messages mean:
If you’re in commercial real estate, don’t send potential clients 3 or 4 properties
they might find interesting
If you’re an agency, don’t attach a deck or write a dozen bullet points on what
you offer
Short, simple - under 5 sentences get the best response
Once you’ve condensed the message..
2. Focus on one specific goal
Lots of cold emails - especially in competitive industries are asking for too
much
Most likely just delete.
What do you do if you got that email?
Book a call? Buy directly? Look at the portfolio?
Decide before you send anything the ONE THING you want the target to do
I recommend having a 5-10 minute call to vet and pitch
After that you can schedule an in person visit, have them fill out a questionnaire or
whatever hoops you want to
Connect as a human first
Which actually brings us to..
3. Customize messaging more than everyone else
Yes, it’s easier to send out a template
So easy that almost every other outreach company claims to write “the perfect
template”
Issue is, templates don’t work nearly as well as customization
Write at least the first sentence of the email custom
Spend 1-2 minutes for each email you send
Your response rate will make up for it
