G20

§  The Group of Twenty (G20) is a new economic integration established in 1999. That is premier forum for international cooperation on the most important issues of the global economic and financial agenda. It brings together governors from 19 countries and the EU.

§  Objectives:

1.  Policy coordination between its members;

2.  Financial regulations that reduce risks and prevent future financial crises;

3.  Modernization of international financial architecture.

Page 5:

G20 Key indicators

§  G20 members represent almost:

§  90% of global GDP

§  80% of international global-trade

§  2/3 of the world's population lives in G20 member countries.

§  The presidency of the G20 rotates annually among its members. The presidency leads a three-member management group of previous, current and future chairs, referred to as the Troika, the purpose of which is smooth transition from one presidency to another.

§  There are no formal criteria for G-20 membership and the composition of the group has remained unchanged since it was established. In view of the objectives of the G-20, it was considered important that countries and regions of systemic significance for the international financial system be included. Aspects such as geographical balance and population representation also played a major part.

Acknowledgement of the Green Growth Forum Communiqué

Liebe Leserin, lieber Leser,
